There was an excellent clip on the radio yesterday of Wheeler being interviewed by Paxman. Wheeler totally outsmarted him, leaving Paxman to go silent for a couple of seconds before laughing and saying, "don't get smart". I've never seen anyone out-fox Pax before.
My father was a senior officer in the London Fire Brigade and was often chosen to comment in the media on major incidents and other fire related matters from the mid / late 60s through to the early 80s.
At this distance I don't remember the specific incident with absolute certainty (it may well have been the Ronan Point disaster) but the interview was broadcast on World At One when Charles Wheeler was a reporter on the programme.
