Purple City Hotels

edited July 2008 in Not Sports Related
Stayed at the Purple City Hotel in Prescott Street E1 with my good lady this weekend. Very nice hotel with reasonable room rates. The thing I found odd was the reception and dining staff all wore a fairly smart navy blue blazer and jeans! Bit strange, or is it a trendy statement from the hotel! Anyone else stayed there?
After being so busy Monday to Friday, it's sort of weird how quiet the city of London is at the weekend.

  • Who is it owned by Al?
  • What did they charge do you mind me asking?

I go to an Elvis gig in the Minorys once a month if I can, would love to do a stay over as its round the corner.
  • Not sure who owns the group, I know they have another hotel in Cambridge and another couple elsewhere.
We stayed for two nights and paid £80 per night for a double room, including breakfast, nice hotel. Might give The Chamberlain Hotel in the Minories a try next time they were quoting £85 per night. Incorporated in the hotel is a very nice Fullers pub, enjoyed a few pints of ESB there on Saturday night and had a nice meal also. Where do you go to for the Elvis gigs, he's not really my cup of tea, but my wife loves him.
You do have to search around the internet a bit to get the best prices for these hotels though!

Its in the Minories nightclub/bar under Tower Hill DLR, monthly London fan club thing, basically an Elvis Disco on the first Saturday of each month, £4 entry, late finish, video screen etc, good nights. (No joke, but Sophie Ellis Bextor has been to a couple of these, met her myself a while back, one of her best friends from school is an Elvis nut and attends, she is stunning up close, very nice girl to talk to)

Or theres another run by a fella called Dave Richards on the last Saturday of each month in the Sir Paul Pindar at Liverpool Street/Bishopsgate, similar thing.

Booking.com is reasonable, plus the majority you dont have to pay upfront, just a card number will do and you can cancel upto 24hrs before without penalty.
