My take on today was we looked decent enough. Admittedly the Fleet was very poor and it was only a friendly but the boys still put in a good show. I thought Varney was brilliant and him and Gray will probably be our partnership up front. Gray did well and they linked up nicely. Shelvey was running the middle of the park and looked comfortable there with good burts of energy and a good free kick for the goal. Hudson looks like a decent enough signing does the important stuff well. Jerome Thomas looked intrested and you could see he was a class above the fleet right back. Second half and Racon scored a lovely goal and looked like he was also comfortable and he could feature more this year. All in all a good work out, no one had a blunder by any means Youga's crossing might have got a bit better too. We won't get too exicted i know it was only the Fleet but we look in pretty decent shape. No Holland or Toddy maybe they was at the other friendly. A good day though and well worth the tenner and the 5 mins car ride from home. Up the Addicks

  • Was a good fun afternoon in the sun. the amusement of the oddjob lookalike standing next to us the whole game.

The couple who were on friendly terms with chips taking penalties at half time, including an announcer who couldn't keep score.

an own goal within about thirty seconds. Fleet were poor, considering the league they are in.

Being as they are the last bastion of socialism in this sceptered aisle I expected a show of hands to decide on their substitutes but alas it was not to be.

We looked good going forward and fairly strong in defence although both youga and hudson pissed about with in slightly dodgy positions when they would have been better off lumping it away. There was a point in the middle of the first half where we kind of lost our way in midfield a bit but as others have said Thomas was pretty good and linked up well with Youga.

The second half could have been embarassing for Ebbsfleet the way the first ten minutes went, but after we got to 5-0 we took our foot off the pedal a fair bit, and even more so once the sixth went in.

My son enjoyed it, jumping around a bit and strutting his stuff to the music at the end of the game.
  • Holland played in the second XI game at Braintree which ended 9-0 to Charlton
  • Was a good hungry performance by a fairly young and inexperienced team and although he didn't score was fairly pleased with Fleetwoods performance.

Got to say though that even though he's only 17 Jensen looked well out of his depth and hardly had a touch after he came on

Just got back from Ebbsfleet, only took 15 mins from ground to home. . . .WRAP JONJO IN COTTON WOOL NOW!

I have hated nearly all our players for the last 3 seasons but this lad is the genuine article. His range of passing is top notch and he always looks for the killer pass.

He is a genuine young player to get nearly over-excited about, even when I was watching him today he is great on the eye.

HE ACTUALLY KEEPS THE BALL AND ENJOYS PASSING TO FEET!!

Fleetwood maybe a couple of inches too small but looks to have the needed desire. Similar in stature to Super Clive.

I think Basey is too big a lump to play left back and might end up in a similar role to Gareth Barry latter in his career.

Still can't see what Pardew saw in Gray and Varney was Varney really.

Overall, a good day out and worth the long 15 minute drive!

Looked more than 1800 there to me but then OoohAaah wasn't there counting. . . .
  • I thought there were some very encouraging signs at Ebbsfleet, for me Racon was outstanding in the second half when he came on. Gray didnt do much despite the goal(s) and Sinclair looks out of his depth....didnt even realise we bought Jensen on....which is a bit sad. Thought Wagstaff improved as the game went on and Shelvey was so hungry for the ball. Met Scott Wagstaff's Dad after the game when I bumped into Steve Waggott, he was really puffed up about Scotts first goal...really nice to see. Steve was really full of enthusiasm...if that rubs off on all around him, like it did with the three of us (Maglor, Kay & I) then the future is looking very bright.
  • Firstly i would say that i dont think u can judge anything from friendlies but....

Thought Jonjo looked class above all on the field. Thomas was lively enough but nothing to write home about. Think in Basey and Youga we could have a decent left side. Hudson looked good but not a lot to trouble him. Good cameo from Racon even without the lovely goal. Varney looked up for it but i was hugely dissapointed with Gray whom i thought was Canham as i didn't his new haircut. Gray looked slow but again friendlies never tell a full story. Semedo looked ok at RB and CB. Wagstaff could be good if he gets a bit stronger and Fleetwood could be a handy acquisition despite some questions being raised about his diminutive stature. Fortune went through the motions but again nothing to trouble the defence. Elliot same as the other defenders really. All the rest did ok but nothing special.

On the whole a decent display against a very poor team and like others have said thought there were more than 1800 and of those who went a healthy show of Charlton mixed in. I think we may do better than many expect us to this season but it will be hard to get top two. Come on you Addicks!
  • Three of us thought Gray was Canham having a better day than a Bromley until the PA announced 'Andy Gray' after he scored from a useful flick. Thought Varney and JT linked well first half with Youga feeding them from left back. I think 'they' see Basey as midfield rather than full-back now- might team-up well with Jonjo.

Waggy continues to impress, and Fleetwood looks hungry for the ball. Racon's goal looked great from behind the goal at the far end, as did Jonjo's free kick.
  • Thought Shelvey looked good, not the finished article but has a hell of a future, Wagstaff looked busy, loads of energy.
I agree with other comments, I dont rate Gray took his lob over the keeper well though.
Managed to get Jon Fortune to do a photo wih my boy just before kick off, cheers Jon.
The penalty shoot out was hilarious, bloke next to me shout out "come on love, put some weight behind it", PMSL, and where did they get that PA guy, awful, cant count, cant speak with a microphone and as funny as a wet weekend.
  • Heard a certain MB allegedly got a bit pissy with their Mascot.......
