Pace at the back

edited July 2008 in General Charlton
Lets take it from all the soundbytes over the last week Bougy is as good as gone.

Unfortunately, he is the only centre half we have with any pace, and leaves us with just Fortune and Hudson, and Semedo and Faye as possible stop gaps.

Not one of them has any pace, the cenre half we bring in next must have some. So who is there that could fit the bill, your suggestions please.....

  • Never mind pace, surely 'Players at the back' would be a more appropriate topic???
  • I know it's history Bart but if we hadn't let Diawara get away we wouldn't have to be discussing this issue.
  • I find it hard to belive Semedo has no pace, he's a young un aint he?
  • Paul Everett?

And unfortunately we don't seem to have learnt from last season's mistakes, so far anyway. The lack of a settled and consistent centre half pairing was a massive contribution to our failings last year. McCarthy, Bougherra and Sodje showed some potential at times, but have now all gone (or nearly gone) so here we go starting from scratch again.

Who played alongside Hudson for Palarse in the 'best defence in the division' and are they available???

some bloke called Fonte that they had on loan and are still trying to sign permanently
  • Fortune isn't exceptionally quick but he isn't slow. His pace should be ok in the Championship after all he played adequately in the Prem without being too exposed pacewise.

Can we nip in there quick, then?!

    Unfortunately he gets exposed concentration-wise...
  • Is ritalin on the doping list?

  • If Bougherra goes...presumably we'll sign a loan CB for next season.
  • Maybe we should sign Hale to go with him?
The perfect pairing, have them rolling in the aisles.

    Coat has been got.
  • If it's pace we're after we could always sign that Chambers lad. Looks like he might be stuck for things to do this summer.
  • Diawara had some refuelling problems and was very keen to get back to France ASAP as well as being poor most of the season.

    Better off without him IMHO
