British boxer coming home

I find it absolutely amazing that a day before the Olympics start, this bloke who was a genuine gold medal contender is coming home because he couldn't make the weight!! Now as well as training every day, surely part of his preparation would've been to ensure he was in or around the weight and could make it come the tournament. To qualify for the Olympics, prepare yourself and train for months and years, get all the way out there, and then not make the weight is a complete joke.

Doesn't say it in the article but in 1 of the papers it said he was 4 pounds over
  • Too many chow meins and pnacake rolls since he's been over there then.
  • Give the guy a break he's only had 4 years to prepare for this.
  • inexcusable IMO

Sadly he'll turn pro and make a mint. Should be made to pay it all back
  • Apparently he was overweight because he stepped up his training and gained too much muscle. If that's the case the trainer deserves as much if not more of the blame.
  • On talk sport night before last the boxing coach said we had good chance od medals in al weights and gavin was a dead cert for golf or silver he even said is was like so un british to say such things but he was that confident.....then mmm the bloke cannot make weight.......bit left hand right hand.........not good start to Olypics...ven interview with Gavin he was saying same as manager ..
