Should we be playing Andorra?

I feel as though the England game against Andorra on Saturday is the biggest waste of time ever. I am all for raising standards and appreciate that the only way smaller teams/countries can improve is by competing at a higher level, but I think Andorra has some way to come yet.

Why don't the minnows play each other so that the best can qualify to play the bigger teams. It works in the FA Cup and, indeed, makes it more interesting when a small team gets to play a big team.

Anyone agree?

  • World Cup/Euro Qualifiers do my head in full stop but I tend to agree with you anyway

Good idea but the question is what if England failed to qualify to play the bigger teams? ;-)
  • We could play Scotland, Wales and Norn Iron........
  • of course we shouldn't it's ridiculous they haven't even got their own bloody ground.
  • You may get to see England score 5 or more goals (may I said) which is very unlikely to happen in a game against any decent side.
  • No, I think Andora should have loftier ambitions and being playing a side that will give them a game, instead of a tin-pot side managed by an Italian.

They have their own ground but only use it against small nations.

They should have to qualify. They also should play bigger nations semi pro teams perhaps in the Olympics....

What is ridiculous is that we're going to play an experienced team against them rather than young up and comers who are eager to impress. Hopefully Bullock will start but that's as likely as Luton winning the league this year.

Is anyone from the forum going to Barcelona?
  • yes FOD I will be there

I believe Andorra, San Marino, Liechenstein, Luxembourg and the other nations who are routinely embarrassed should play a mini tournament at the same time as the World Cup/Euro Championship to decide who will join the more senior nations in the Qualifiers proper. Rather like the way it is in cricket with a tournament between the likes of scotland, ireland, usa, canada, bermuda, netherlands, uae etc. to get to the World Cup/World 20/20
  • I'm also going and will be in Croatia on Wednesday, where I'll be sharing a room with a Palace fan...
  • We should be playing Gibraltar to show solidarity with our kin who are criminally excluded from UEFA by the Spanish due to the Spaniards totally unjustified claim to the Rock

oh dear! though at least if things are getting a bit much in Zagreb you've got an expendable member of your group that you can feed to the lions while you scarper!

gutted i'm not doing croatia, would have been a definite if not for timing as i'm moving out to Spain that week.
  • No, they're too good for us.

Think we should do this as a qualifying tournament to represent GB at 2012
  • Did'nt someone have an idea about a pre tournament qualification round for Europe's smaller nations? San Marino, Andorra, Lichtenstein, etc?
  • Well, at least playing the likes of Andorra gives Michael Owen the chance to add to his England goals tally.

Oh, ....... hang on a minute!
