Internet Businesses

I need some advice, there is an idea floating around in my head about setting up Web based business. Now as far as getting the finance and actually running the thing is concerned I am all over it, but and it's a big but I have absolutely no clue about the internet, building websites, getting said site listed et al.

Do any of you techies out there have any experience in this field or know where I go for some impartial advice ?

I own a web agency, feel free to forward me your idea, it's understandable if you can't be specific so try to give me an a rough idea and i'll give you an estimate of cost.

To give you a general guide, there's no reason why any website should cost more than £30K these days to build, most of our sites are between 1K and 8K, generally, like everything you get what you pay for. There are ongoing costs, hosting being the main one.

As far as getting your site 'listed' I assume you mean google etc. this is the million dollar question, there's no simple answer, companies who specialise in this are very expensive. It's all relative though and most of what they do should be achieved in the initial website (good code and design etc.)

Well building the site, traffic expected, maintainence, your product can all greatly effect the finances of setting up a web based business. Thought about that?

Thanks very much everyone, some good advice and food for thought there. As I said to AFKA above, very much at the ideas stage at the mo but I will be putting together business plans, budgets and forecasts over the next week or so.
