In the days before the Cockney Mafia and Cosa Nostra (pre 19th Century) - the underworld, illegal gambling, wenches and moonlighting first started in a small place in South Yorkshire.

It was initially called Pebblewee but locals thought this was not strong enough for a place with such a strong reputation. Therefore in 1748, they name the town after the leader of the area...

Don Caster.

  • Donny as it is known is the home town to pop singer Donny Osmond.

He was born and bred in the town but was saved from a life of hanging around the Frenchgate centre and dodging traffic to reach the train station when his mother converted to Mormonism and moved the family to Utah
  • The name originates from the middle ages, when the lord of the manor (Lord Astor) was renowned for his extra marital activities with the local town womenfolk. Legend has it that he was particularly blessed in the breeches department and was known as “Donkey Astor”

Upon his death (from exhaustion) the women of the town successfully petitioned to change the towns name in recognition of his sterling efforts over the years.
  • Kevin Keegan was born in Doncaster and has his family home in the area. however NEVER NEVER NEVER ask super Keegan about what actually happend in that layby in doncaster with the young lad who was hitch-hiking.
  • Each May Naturalists flock to Doncaster. The town is home to a unique species of bat that only comes out of it's roost during May to feed and mate.

The bat is so rare that it is only known by it's latin name: Eptesicus Doncasticus

Currently there are only one breeding pair known to experts. This pair live attached to the armpit hair of doncaster resident Howard Canstickle. Mr Canstickle, 47, only became aware of the bats when he discovered Kate Humble climbing up the inside of his beloved Iron Maiden t-shirt during a particularly popular episode of BBC's Springwatch.
  • The phenomenon of adolescent acne was discovered in Doncaster.

This area of Doncaster was named Spotborough in honour of the discovery.
