Brum away - cheap trains at the moment!

edited September 2008 in General Charlton
Just a heads up to everyone that you can get £5 singles at the mo for trains up to Brum out of Euston AND BACK both at sociable times on Nov 15th.

Normal fare is £38 return, just booked 4 tickets there and back for £40!!!

Only thing is, they're not showing up on virgin booking site or thetrainline.com - you have to do it at a ticket office at a station. You can check what trains they have them on on nationalrail.co.uk.

Looking forward to another good awayday :-)

For walkon fares chiltern is cheaper than virgin - normal return fare £30 (£60 group save) with them though if you leave London after 11am (restrictions do apply Saturdays) a Super Off Peak return is £18.00 (no groupsave available) i.e. 1120 ex-Marylebone to Moor Street (arrives 1332). Also Moor Street is closer to the ground.

Did the Chiltern line train from Marylebone to Moor St a couple of years back.It is cheap but a bit of a cattle truck, only 4 carriages, gets rammo early doors and quite slow.

Never done the London to Birmingham on any train but surely Chiltern is better than cr*p country (expensive cattle trucks) whose trains go from Sheffield to Birmingham. I used to travel on that route to head office but not any more - when it was virgin they had no restrictions on the off-peak tickets bought with railcards unlike travel via London.

In fairness the Chiltern stuff is busy at the weekend but mid week with a rail card if you get a text ticket to your phone it can be as cheap as 3.30 each way. Takes 2 and a half hours mind

The Chiltern journey is ok when you win, but boy it drags if you lose
