Why, have they stuck up cameras there now too?
  • indeed. We all go over he limit on the motorway. I do but never at the risk of someone. A40 dual carriageway coming out of cheltenham is a beauty. No one on it and no cameras.... yum. If anyone on it of course i would adhere to the laws of the land. But Tavern was concerned the last time i got home about 45 mins then he would... cor dear does he stick to the rules. He wont let me drive? very frustrating.
  • Whole new batch of cctv cameras recently put up on the a2 bwtween falconwood and the kidbrooke exit, both ways, including the tunnel.
  • Maybe but legally only fixed camera's can be used for speed enforcement unless you are warned of an average speed check.....
  • I agreed with mr soundasa£ it is incredibly rich for a non driver (but more often than not a willing passenger) to dig drivers out, same as it would be for me to dig out cyclists.

However and suzi is right I'm pretty sure this has been done before the punishment in relation to the crime as regards speeding is shit. If driving at 80-90mph in a national limit is that bad take the licence away from the perpetrator they wouldn't do it then would they. The same applies to anyone doing 40 in a 30 and so on take the licence from the criminal then before you know it.... PROBLEM SOLVED!

But then, who would break all those limits because I reckon abour 70-75% of drivers on here have collared points for excessive speed and with the new carter rules in place who would be left to break the limits and generate revenue?

I will readily admit to being a superb driver allbeit one who has clocked up a few points in my time, none I may add for dangerous driving. Just exceeding the limit. (That is tongue in cheek)

However this excellent driver who clocks up at least 80 miles a day doesn't see many speed cameras near schools, or near roundabouts, or near pubs, or near blind bends.
Only near areas that would seem to be pretty safe, have good clear visibilty that sort of thing that encourages accelaration in a straight line.
  • I have no sympathy with anyone who gets speeding tickets, I speed on the A2 sometimes, if I get caught, tough on me.

Not seen them, I'm a regular on the A2 between Bean & Kidbrooke, are these the rows of small cameras on long poles over the road?

I don't think those are speed cameras but vehicle recognition cameras that watch you and now keep a record of the journey you've just made for six years....yes six years!!
It was going to be only two years but earlier this week some government department/think tank/sub commitee/quango or other decided and announced that this data will now instead be retained for six years instead.Anyone complaing...nah of course not.... cos it's done for our own good...EVIDENTLEY!
Did anyone ever ask you if they could do this in the first place let alone do it now for six years!! We sleep walk into this stuff, I despair I really do.
Freedom...forget it...we live in the most watched over and spied upon society on the face of the planet, we make the now defunct Nazi Germany and The USSR look like amateurs in gathering information on our citizens!
And to think we spent years one way or another defeating these two ghastly regimes, only to replace it with something even more invasive and demeaning, a system that step by step is being foisted upon us by stealth and our own apathy and ignorance under the guise of security and a safer society.
    A safer society....indeed...well that's a laugh isn't it...just look around you!
  • Blimey Soundas - chill out fella!

Morning Off-it...well it's a way of letting my/our hair down mate...yes I admit it's a bit of a rant but nevertheless something very important that we need to be thinking about, instead of just accepting this drip drip tap effect of on going stuff that's being foisted on us without our realising it.
As you can see, I'm somewhat passionate about the subject and the way things are going troubles me.
    Fancy 3 points on Saturday?...LOL!
  • Nowt wrong with a bit of passion mate - just ask my missus!
    ;o)
  • aren't the A2 high cameras "average speed check" cameras? go through the first one and by the time you get to the 2nd one it works out what you did and can send you a ticket based on your average speed?

I think it can only be a good thing them holding records. what if they needed to catch a criminal who drove a certain car at a certain time and trace the route to find missing people? it can only help, what harm can it do?

Those camera's are currantly being used to survey vehicles coming into the area with excess imissions, hence the signs on the A2 also on the lower rd around Plumstead bridge, although than can be used for several purposes i:e avarage speed, vehicle recognition ect that is the only purpose they serve at the moment. AT THE MOMENT!!!!
  • just remembered my bus lane ticket was issued by Lambeth which I appealed and have heard nothing back from then other than to acknowledge my letter.

Bit of luck one of the camera ooperators was one of these people

I tought they were set up for Ken's 'Low Emmission' zone which Boris has abolished.

What with those cameras all over London and the signage for them which are now ALL redundant, you could have probably built an Olympic sized swimming pool in Stratford.

Nothing like wasting money when it isn't yours.
