A few weeks ago Camping was on my kids had never seen a Carry on, anyway Babs Windsor was in it, my eldest goes 'thats Peggy Mitchell', we ended up watching the film and they were roaring with laughter, so it transends generations which is nice.
Can't separate Up the Khyber, Doctor and Don't Lose your Head. They had some of the best lines of the entire series:
Khyber:
Peter Butterworth - 'I've never been pulled by cows before' Roy Castle - 'Bullocks Mr Belcher' Peter Butterworth - 'No honest I haven't'
Peter Gilmore - 'Buuuurpers!'
Doctor:
Bernard Bresslaw - 'I dreamt about you last night Nurse' Nurse - ' Did you?' Bernard Bresslaw - 'No, you wouldn't let me'
'Barbara Windsor - 'Ooh what a lovely looking pear!' Peter Gilmore - 'You took the words right out of my mouth!'
Head:
(After Joan Sims burps) Kenneth Williams - 'Ooh charming!' Joan Sims - 'I can't help it, the bubbles get lodged in me chest' Kenneth Williams - 'Mm, there's room for a few lodgers there!'
Kenneth Williams - 'Remember Bidet, you must be circumspect.' Peter Butterworth - Oh, I was Sir. When I was a baby.'
When we lived in North London, my wife used to teach the Grandaughter of Diana Copeland, who played Sid Jame's wife in Bless This House and appeared in a couple of carry ons.
She sat at our table at a charity auction night once and she was telling me what a laugh it was to make the films (even though they didn't all get on) She had put a picture of herself and Sid James (which he had signed years previously) in the auction. By the time it came up I'd had a few drinks and was determined to win it. I think I only paid about £60 for it and it's probably worth a lot more than that. I know it's genuine although don't know how you'd go about getting it authenticated now.
The TV Film "Cor Blimey" about the Carry On team was brilliant. Mainly focused on the relationship between Sid and Babs, he was obsessed with her. Also higlighted the bitchiness of Kenneth Williams.
Fantastic performances by the actors playing Sid, Babs, Williams, Hawtrey and Connor. I think it was Geoffery Perkins who played Sid, recently seen in Benidorm as the suitor of the old bag.
The real Barbara Winsor made a cameo as herself at the end of the film.
Well worth a watch if it's on again.

There's a line in that one where an Indian guy's listening to music on the radio and it's referred to as "Top of the Poppadoms" - you'd never get away with THAT now! ;-p

c o abroad
c o at your convenience
Ironically I think the best line came from the worst film:
"they'll eat me whole"
"no they spit that bit out"
c o Columbus
One of the first times I thought to myself "I wonder if I can see anything if I hit the pause button on the VCR"
She gets them out in Carry-On Dick and Abroad...
