Full page in the Southend Evening Echo today about Paul Brand. Been a successful Estate Agent in Hadleigh for the last 25 years. Says his career was cut short with Charlton at the age of 23 with a serious knee injury. Don't remember him myself, anyone remember him?

It's only going to be one of us old uns that remember him, I assume he would have played in the early 80's.

I've been a fan for over 40 years and I've never heard of him. That's not to say he wasn't with us but "cut short at the age of 23" would suggest that he'd been a regular member of the first team.

I've been around since Adam was a boy ...... and it's not a name that I recall having played for the 1st team - or even on the fringes.

If he was in the youth team, someone with old programmes from the late 70's or early 80's might find a mention.
Unless he's having a laugh - sure he's not Russell Brand or even Jo Brand.....?

The name means nothing to me.
  • Me neither - another estate agent being expansive with the truth I would say.

Have had a chance to actually talk to the man!

1976 - 1978 - Andy Nelson was manager at the time. Paul only played a couple of pre-season friendlies for the first team. When he did his cruciate, he was playing in the reserves against Millwall, which was ironic as his father played for Millwall for ten years apparently.

The first team had Hales and Flannagan playing for them and Paul has kept touch with Peter Hunt and until a while ago, Harry Cripps.

The Charlton link was actually 'bigged up' by the Echo reporter when trying to explain in the article how he started as an estate agent.

For an estate agent, he seemed a nice guy!
