Had a fantastic meal at the Trafalgar Tavern a few weeks back. They do traditional English food and if you book a table for around 6.30-7.00 and you should get a table with a river view.
If you're struggling to get into the 'usual suspects' of Inside, Locale, Chapters etc, I like The Guildford (http://www.leguildford.co.uk/) down in the Ashburnam triangle and - much as I hate to say it - The Spread Eagle is actually quite good...
so charlton charlie or anyone else. am going to the guildford tonight but still cant picture where it is - would it be best to meet in ashburnam arms for a drink before?

No, have a drink in the Guildford - it's a good bar as well as a great eaterie.
Make room for dessert - the chef there is brilliant.
