Just back from Canterbury and not too despondent. We've just won five matches on the spin and we had to lose one sometime. Morgan played one of the most extraordinary innings I've ever seen - audacious reverse sweeps and a range of other shots not in the coaching manual and which you can't set a field to...and he had one of those days where everything he tried came off. It was his 'Graham Napier moment', if you like.

Middx massive total was beyond us from the start, especially once we lost Key so early (now his lack of form is a worry).

A shame because we started so well, getting Ausse wonder boy Hughes and Owas Shah cheaply. They were the two batsemen we feared most - but we hadn't reckoned with Compton and Morgan.

It will all come right v Somerset on Sat. I've seen virtually every day of cricket Kent have played this season (well, 13 out of 17 days in the championship and FPT) and we are in really good shape and very 'up for it'. There's competition for batting places now wth Hockley and Northeast coming good and Kemp back in form. And when McLaren arrives back from the IPL and Amjad is fit again, we have a real headache over which bowlers to leave out.

If Charlton showed the form, skill and spirit Kent have done this season, you would all be purring with pleasure, believe me.
