Barcelona

edited October 2008 in Not Sports Related
Taking the missus to Barcelona on Wednesday for her 30th and wondered if anyone had been and had some recommendations??

Want to take her to a good restaurant (in the harbour??) and a decent bar.

Also, any recommendations for places to go/things to see aside from the obvious?

Thanks in advance

If she's got a sweet tooth, try the chocolate museum, which is sort-of near the harbour. The cable car up to the old castle's fun as well.

As for bars, it depends what you're into (my favourite is the indie-tastic Manchester Bar in the Raval, and there's a few alternatives near there like the Betty Ford bar) but generally you can't go wrong whatever you're into. Off the top of my head, I'd head towards Placa George Orwell for a couple of decent, if slightly grungy places, that's a good place to start exploring from in the old town.

The usual health warnings - watch yourself around the Ramblas, especially at night, and also in the streets leading off it.

On a wet night in SE7, the thought of a bit of Barcelona sunshine's got me jealous!

(oh yeah, my advice was better in the old thread!)

Las Ramblas is the main street in Barcelona. Loads of decent boozers around there. The harbour and marina has a casino and tonnes of decent fish retaurants. straight out the sea and on your plate!

At the top of Las Ramblas there's the big square where you can take a tour bus (well worth it). It takes you around all the sites to see and you just get on and off when you want as it does a continuous loop (

I'd recommend the Neu Camp tour (awesome) and definitley the Sagrada Familia. A must if you're there with time to see stuff.

    Enjoy!
  • Great city, full of culture and some great architecture, especially Gaudi ......but watch the pickpockets.
  • Like the sound of the 'indie-tastic Manchester Bar', the cable car and the bus tour. Not sure how I'm going to crowbar a trip to the Neu Camp in - I considered going to a Champions League game yesterday, until I checked the fixtures and saw they're away!

    Cheers folks - much appreciated!
  • To be honest i was a little disappointed with Barcelona, but we did have terrible weather. But the Gaudi park is great.
  • The market, halfway between place catalunya and the harbour is well worth a visit, also not far from the in the contemporary art museam

Valley 11 - here's the slightly less grungy bar I was struggling to remember when you made your original post... the Ambar, cracking little place.

(damn, you've gone already... well, just in case...)
