htpothetical question for our resident referee(s)

the ball is rolling down the wing, very close to the side line but doesn't go out of play. both the winger and defender are chasing it but momentum has taken them both out of play, when the defender fouls the winger, nothing cynical, the winger just cuts accross him.
so in nutshell, the foul took place off the pitch, the ball never left the field.
where does the free kick/restart take place?

Comments

  • I would award it bang on the touchline nearest where the infringement took place
  • the offence happend off the pitch, nothing happens the ball remains in play. there is no foul or restart.
  • We use what's called law 18 - common sense.

Award the free-kick at the nearest place on the field of play to where the offence was commited and tell anyone bollocks (or book them) who disagrees.
  • same sort of scenario, would you award a pen if the foul was off the pitch, behind the goal line?
don't mean to be awkward, just thought of the scenario after seeing shawcross foul on adebayor, and wondered if it is covered specifically in the laws.
  • If the foul was off the pitch, then it was outside the penalty area too ....... no penalty kick.

    Still go with those who say free-kick at the nearest place on the field of play to where the offence was commited;
on the touchline/penalty area line join if necessary.

I also like Stone's, ".....tell anyone bollocks (or book them) who disagrees."
    Quality!
  • would it not just be a throw and a warning for the defender?
  • the ball didnt go out the players did.

let them have a bang up off the pitch and play on

    old skool stylie
  • Ref controls the whole match. He can send off a player who's sitting on the bench or in the tunnel.

So it is a free kick.
