The most influential rock band you never heard to misquote Richard Murray.

Could have been a totally different 5 or 10 or 20 but for now.

5. Pale Blue Eyes

4. I'm Waiting for the Man

3. Beginning to see the Light

  • Been listening to Live at Max's Kansas City so:

    I'm set free

    Candy says

    Sweet Jane

    I'm waiting for the man

And not from Max's - Heroin

See what I mean. I had I'm set free and Candy says on my list and then scrubbed them out. Impossible to choose just 5.
  • I haven't a Foggy Notion what you are both talking about....

Actually that is one of my favourites.
  • Apart from all of them:

    Heroin
    Sister Ray
    Black Angel Death Song
    White Light White Heat
    Candy Says
  • and Run Run Run
    Waiting for thee man
    All tomorrows parties

....actually is there a duff one at all????
  • Duff beer is duff
  • Sweet Jane
    White light, white heat
    I'm waiting for the man
    Heroin
    Candy says

...and just about everything they made
  • Maybe some of the stuff on Squeeze but I really dont count that as a VU album. It's only really got the fact that it gave it's name to the SE London band to recommend it. And John Cale produced their first EP.

I'll be Your Mirror - Surprised that hasn't been covered by someone (most likely has but not to my knowledge)
  • Henry, isn't this where I should totally dismiss your taste in music as rubbish in the same way you do with others?

  • Oh grow up!
  • Is it just me or has Chirpy suddenly gone crackers?
  • What about Venus In Furs- classic book, classic song but the two films made of the same title are just plain strange!
  • Noticed that the BeeB are trailing the new series of Never Mind the Buzzcocks (Starts tonight) with "I'm waiting for the man"

Did no one check the lyrics first : - )

    I'm Waiting for the Man
    Venus in Furs
    Sweet Jane (long version)
    New Age
    Ocean/Here come the Waves
  • I Heard Her Call My Name (just to be different, and for the guitar solo)
    Ocean
    Lisa Says
    Waiting For The Man
    Pale Blue Eyes
  • Who are they and why don't I know any of their songs? Is it someone from the 60's? Did the Beatles thread set the oldies off on their reminiscing again? Put your Cardies and slippers on, light the fire and wrap up warm oldsters as I hear it is going to get a bit chippy tonight. Leave the music discussions to us young and hip crowd.

How wrong you can you be : - )

The Beatles and the Velvets. Now there is a contrast.

  • I only know the one album so I'm going for:

    Sunday Morning
    Waiting For The Man
    All Tomorrow's Parties
    Euroean Son
    Femme Fatal

What other albums would you advise chacking out?

What other albums would you advise checking out?

Certainly White Light, White Heat and The Velvet Underground, the 2nd and 3rd albums

Loaded isn't quite as good but has some great tracks. VU is a compilation of unreleased tracks but with some surprisingly good stuff. Most of it is rumoured to be from the mythically "lost" album.

Live at Max's is good and there are plenty of compilations as well.

    Avoid Squeeze
  • Cheers Henry. Much appreciated.
  • Robert Elms is doing a Velvet Underground four-play on BBC Radio London 94.9 this afternoon.
  • I'm Waiting For The Man
    I'll Be Your Mirror
    Pale Blue Eyes
    Sweet Jane
    Femme Fatal
  • Can we include Lou Reed songs?

If not most with Nico singing, but early stuff all good.
  • D D A G G A B B A D

is the opening riff for which Velvet Underground song!?
  • sweet jane is a tune!
  • [cite]Posted By: Cordoban Addick[/cite]Can we include Lou Reed songs?

You'll have trouble finding anything worthy.

    <whistles>
  • According to the Sunday Times Lou Reed is one of the specialist subjects on Mastermind tonight.

Rock and roll, hey, it's so mainstream
