None of us quite know what to say....for a bunch of guys and gals who usually have plenty to say for themselves I sense an air of incredulity....just what can we say...what can we do...where can we go....where can we get comfort.....where can we make sense of it all.....nowhere is the answer...absolutely nowhere my friends.... a candle was blown out today....well in truth it was barely flickering anyway.
I love you my Addicks I always have and I always will...but tonight there's a cold chill in my heart...I'll not sleep well tonight and who knows, maybe not for a while.

As you as sound as, "i'm all said out"

Switch it off, get some comfort from something else.

I for one was feeling optimistic today....logged on to CAFCTV after 25 mins and we were dominating and my optimism was growing and then suddenly 2 goals in 3 mins totally against the run of play. It was like a dagger in the heart as I knew there was no way back and suddenly we are looking into a deep chasm that the likes of Leeds and Leicester are finding difficult to climb out of. I don't know what we have all done to deserve this but we are looking at the worst CAFC team ever and it was only 5 years ago we were 8th in the prem. I will always be Charlton but it was my local team and I live in the US now. However I enlisted my son as well and I am going to offer him the chance to get out while he can and maybe pick a prem team to support otherwise its years of misery for him.

Believe it or not, there's only 96 days until the first day of county cricket at Canterbury. It just can't come soon enough...

    Why?

I cant remember what league we were in when I started supporting Charlton. Probably where we are now. That is classic glory hunting. Man City were in the 3rd tier not so long ago. And Fulham.

tongue in cheek mate...he's addickted...will just be a miserable bastard like me every Saturday.....
  • So were Wigan, Hull...
  • Sorry, Div 3 been there got the tee shirt. Believe me it won't be any easier unless we get a side together that has height and pace up front a strong combative midfield and a defence that doesn't gift goals.

don't agree with that. clearly its far beyond bad luck not getting a win in 18 games, but as soundasa£ says I just don't know what to say. theres no one to blame any more, well ok you can blame the management, but i thought the performance today was decent. we just can't win and I don't understand why! aggghhhhhhhhhhh

We,ve had worse....Richard Wilson for instance when we got relegated in 79/80. He got 1 goal in 16 games I think and Barry Endean was crap too when we got relegated in 71/72.

Had a fair amount to drink tonight but it's had absolutely no effect: I might as well have had glasses of water and saved some money. Last time this happened was after relegation at Blackpool in '72 and 8 or 9 pints of Tartan had no effect, the depression was that bad,but that was on the last day of the season for Christ's sake, not bloody January!

    Piss off Chirpy :-)
  • I did watch Burton today and think.."so, that's where we are then". Yep, I fear we are entering a new era of kak beyond our worst imaginings.

What was worse for me anyway is that in order to innoculate myself against the gloom and doom, I retreated to gallows humour but very half hearted. I seemed to accept that having gone two down, there was no way back. My 9 year old lad said at half time "can we go home now Dad?", I joked about suffering being part and parcel of being an Addicks fan and said "you never know we might storm back in the second half" but inside I knew it was futile and his suggestion was probably a good one.

Strange that, my 30 year old said exactly the same!

I've spent the afternoon with the right hump because of the result but I've had a lovely night out with some friends and all seems better with the world, my take is what will be will be, we don't all support Charlton for the glory do we?! Supporting Charlton is about taking the rough with the smooth, enjoying the smooth but not giving up during the rough, that's why we all do it. If we go down so be it, we'll still all be fans, we've been there before. Getting wound up won't change jack so what's the point...?

Amid all the doom and gloom, my kid made me proud by confirming his status as a die-hard Addick fan by saying that being an Addick fan indicates a passion that is missing from his schoolmates who would desert Chelsea/Manure/Arsenal in droves if they are in our situation....

It is moments like this which has warmed me cockles!!!! So lets put all this in perspective - we are all in this together and jettisoning the glory hunters who 'boos' at the drop of a hat would be a bliss!

Brilliant - good on the lad!!!
  • My brother took his 8 year old daughter to the Valley today and its her first match. She loved it despite the freezing conditions and the result. I think the chips may have helped.

But a new Rumsey fan in the making at the same time as my Dads name was posted on the screen having passed away recently. How will her years supporting Charlton compare to my Dads time? (dont think you could get chips then!).

One day this slump will come to and end and we will be a force to be recognised but it maybe we have to wait a while.
  • My twins who will be 4 at the end of the month have been once to a game and believe it or not it was our last win on Oct 4th against Ipswich so think they are going to have to go again very soon! They are sitting here in their Charlton tops watching Dora! lol. I was greeted when I got in last night with never mind Daddy we will win next time! oh how that cheered me up!
