according to The Mirror

think we're going to get a lot of this over the next few weeks.

To date i have seen press rumours linking him with:
Fulham
Newcastle
Sunderland
West Ham

We should run a sweep on how many clubs by his birthday.

I know Newcastle sent a Scout to watch Shelvey when we played Wolves at Home earlier this season, unfortunately for them he was not in the team that day.

Zola was at the last round of the Yoof cup
  • He's managed by his Dad isn't he? Both Pards and Parky have been careful not to risk nasty injuries by over-using him. Hopefully his Dad will be swayed by this and not expose him at a more pressured club away from home?

hopefully the club will hold on to him until the summer at least, but I expect they would find a big bid hard to ignore. Sell him and loan him back would be a novel wy to add to the temp squad the Board like
  • Zola came to watch him in a youth cup game this season.

Shelvey's performances are hardly likely to be a secret.

Every club would have a representative at England schoolboy games.
He would have been flagged up as the opponent to watch at Youth team games.

And the press has been bigging him up as Charlton's 16 year old 'wonder kid'. after his League & cup performances.

If Jonjo is a secret, then that's the worst kept secret in football ....!

    ;o)

A big bid is unlikely though surely. Anyone signing him before February would probably be more willing to go to a tribunal like Bostock. Bostock is the same age as Shelvey, captain of England under 17s and is seen as the outstanding kid in their age group and he went for 700k.

Well i guess we culd say to Jon Jo and his reps "sign for us get XYZ , make it a 2 year contract and any Prem team that come in with a transfer bid from now on of over £3mil you can talk to em plus we will let you have 15% of the fee"

how did The Saints get £8 mil --£11 mil for Walcott ?

    Shhhhh!

If Southampton can get big money for Walcot and Bale, why can't we do the same?
  • I think Walcott was higher profile and all the top clubs were after him hence the huge fee. A few months after Saints got that fee he played for England. Shelvey is nowhere near that level.
Bale was 17 when he was sold so was under contract plus he was already a full international.

If Shelvey is going to go then our only hope is that there are lots of clubs interested so we can get a decent fee. You'd like to think that he'd stay with us at least until the end of next season and play some games rather than sit in someones reserve side.

let's hope parky can now see that and play him rather than sticking him in our reserve side like we have done up until recently

No point in wrapping him up anymore is there ? we either go for it and Jon Jo helps in the biggest come back since Jesus at Easter along time ago or we sell him and get what ever we can, even £300K is alot to us at mo.

Not sure how it works due to his age, assume JJ has a contract at charlton . IMHO we keep him as long as possible and sell in 2-3 years for £10m+, pointless getting peanuts for potentially our best player.

He can't sign till his 17th birthday next month - which is why we're all so worried!

He is a fantastic young player, let's just celebrate that. I'm sure he's got good people around him advising him. If he goes, or if he stays, whatever decision is made, it won't be his fault. Football is a huge business now and we have to acknowledge that.

Obviously I hope he stays, at least for a season or two because even at his tender years, he is head and shoulders above anybody else we have at the club for technical skill wedded to football intellegence and we could not hope to go out and buy someone with his quality.

  • We know he comes on here so i think we should start off and sticky a 'Jonjo please stay' thread.

But yeah have to agree with everything Bing said.

Since we sponsored his kit this year don't WE own him? :-)

Anyway - his Dad may not manage him but from what I heard in the past his parents were happy with his development at the club and happy with thew way they were being looked after.

I'd like to think that Jonjo is fully aware that he is going to be a very wealthy young man in the not too distant future and is happy to learn his trade with us for now. I'd also like to think he will display a level of loyalty in recognising what we have done for him - and sign a contract when he turns 17. If nothing else it guarantees a decent fee for us.

In reality though I'd love him to stay for a few more years and fire us into the Premiership

After the thing with Bouazza, Fulham should just be told to f**k off. Out of the list on this thread Spurs or the Hamsters seem most believable to me. Doesn't Jonjo come from a West Ham supporting family? Still, I'd prefer to keep him for a couple of years yet though.
