Curbishley will he ever manage again?

Strange as this may sound I'm begining to think that he 'possibly' wont you know.
He's been out of the game for quite sometime now and the longer that goes on the less likely that
(A) anyone will come in for him....or
(B) that he himself would really be that interested.
I think the calibre of club that would now come in for Curbs would be somewhat beneath his own self esteem and expectations.
I'm also of the opinion that he wont want to be away from (or at least very far from), his family and home in Essex, which doesn't exactly leave too many options open for him when you come to think of it.

He's left himself with no Premiership options.

If I was going to have a bet I'd say he'll end up at Ipswich.

He's not good at se;lling himself either, he has a total carisma by-pass when he's on Sky. . . . .very zzzz

You never can tell though can you, look at Joe Kinnear, 3 years out the game after getting sacked by Forest and walks into the Newcastle job. It's a funny old game saint.

That sounds a pretty good call.
  • a) He's only been out the game for three months, maybe four. Billy Davies was out of work for over a year and Joe Kinnear last managed a club several seasons ago. Plus when he left cHarlton it was around six months before he took over at West Ham. My guess is that he'll wait for the right job and the right money.

    b) Yep, I agree there are a limited number of clubs that he'd be interested in - the top few clubs and Man City etc are going to go after international names and he doesn't have the clout to manage them. But every year around a third of the Premiership and the CCC change their managers, sooner or later one of those will sack the manager, be geographically close to Curbs and be an interesting enough proposition.

I think he still has the ambition and after initial promise at Charlton and a disappointing experience at West Ham I think he'll want another go. I suspect it might have to be an outfit like QPR rather than Aston Villa though.

He will never manage again & will become a recluse after taking out court injunctions for harrassment against Ooh Aah & Len Glover from this board.

You can also add Kevin Keegan to that list as well, out of the role for years. However, if he leaves it too long he'll end up like George Graham and Glenn Hoddle, completely out of the management game.

Well of course geographicly those two would be within striking distance for him...however I feel that he considers himself a cut above either of those two.....QPR possibly..... but that slap around the M25 four of five days a week aint a joke.

He's probably waiting for Capello to slip up, and then apply for that job again! ;-)

Sae on the TV the other day that Hoddle has opened up his own football academy coaching youngsters that have been rejected by league clubs.

Hope it fails and he loses loads of money. Hate the bloke with a passion. Even before his England stint - the self righteous sanctimonious c***!

If Curbs is keen to get back into management, then I'd have thought an international job eg the national team of Australia or somewhere in the Mid East would be ideal for him. If he can get a country like that to the World Cup finals, that would raise his profile for England in future.

With the exceptions of Alex Ferguson and Dario Gradi Curbs worked longer without a break than any other football manager.

He had 15 years (4 with Gritty) with us, 6 months off and then walked into a minefield at West Ham. He had the stress of a relegation struggle which (unfortunately for us) he won, a trademark boring mid table Premiership season which nobody at West Ham appreciated (rather like us) and then resigned in September or October 2008 with his team sitting 4th in the table.

He has therefore had less than 12 months off in 17 years which is almost unheard of in football terms apart from the two mentioned above.

I think he is enjoying a well earned break and who can blame him?

There will be plenty of takers for a proven Premiership manager such as him if and when he signals his availability.

    Len is spot on.
  • Things move very quickly in football and a job that might seem unavailable now could crop up in a matter of months if a manager has a bad run.

I think the jobs at Middlesbrough and Portsmouth could well come up next and Curbs will be interested in the latter I suspect. I think he'd take moving to the Costa del Boredom if he has to. I think Tony Adams could be sacked within eight weeks. The instability at Board level will concern him though, as well as the club's growing debts. Defoe was a big loss.

Boro has a more settled Board of Directors but that will be a tough assignment geographically - reckon Curbs sees them as the least attractive North East option but he'd not rule himself out directly.

However, if Marcus Evans at Ipswich puts decent money into that club then he might see that as a very convenient (i.e. local) way back to the top flight. Curbs has always respected Sir Bobby Robson, while Magilton is not popular at Portman Road...

I think whoring yourself around on Sky is signalling his availability! . . . . his 'You're on Sky Sports' appearance sent me to sleep.

I've had a re-think and would say Birmingham City next season should they go up.

The Golds are Eastenders and he's played for em before.

Brighton when they get their new ground.

I think Weggie is getting warm with an international job. He does have a welsh name.

Perhaps in the meantime, the Hammer Scammers are still paying his salary on a monthly basis....?

I remember when the Plymouth Argyle manager was sacked a couple of years ago, they couldn't afford to pay up his contract in one lump sum - so they carried on paying him weekly/monthly as if he was still employed until they reached a lesser settlement figure.

Maybe that's the case with Curbs. And Pardew too.
