yesterday Buddy Holly died in a plane crash.

I just watched the Buddy Holly Story (again) and he produced some great stuff in a short space of time.

There might be an element of preferring the music you heard when young but I do wonder which of the stars of today will still be listened to if the world is still here in 50 years time.

  • A long, long time ago...
    I can still remember
How that music used to make me smile.
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make those people dance
And, maybe, they'd be happy for a while.

    But February made me shiver
    With every paper Id deliver.
    Bad news on the doorstep;
I couldn't take one more step.

I cant remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride,
But something touched me deep inside
    The day the music died.

As Lennon said the music you loved in your youth will always be the music that means the most to you.

Been listening to Roy Orbison a lot recently. Knew a few of the hits but never really listened to him much before but what great stuff; Running Scared, In Dreams, Blue Bayou

As for today's music in 50 years time who knows. Richard Hawley or Amy Winehouse or more likely some kids we have never heard of practising in the singer's bedroom right now.

Well spotted Sir. Straight over the heads of the rest of them I'm afraid

EDIT P. Had to go and listen to it again. What a classic. "play too fast, play out of tune"
