If and its a big if we can select from that squad then I believe we will do ok. However I think that quite a few of those mentioned will be long gone. Attack looks weakish to me though ?0
-
true but they are players i dont think we willbe able to offload.0
-
Even Burton scored 15 goals in Sheff Weds promotion season 2 or 3 years ago.
;o)0 -
Thats my hope too Dazz but we are skint and if an offer comes in the player himself would be mad not to improve their position. Pity but true I think.0

Can't see Moutaouakil staying. Surely Hudson will go, and I don't know if we'll keep Racon, Bailey and Shelvey (obviously hope we do though). Semedo could go as well.
Will be interesting to see if we manage to sign Kandol and Ward. They're definitely the type of players Parkinson likes.
We'll be in trouble if we have to use Wagstaff regularly on the wing, and I doubt Basey or Clark are good enough to play regularly if Youga gets injured.
Then obviously we need more than that up front. We'll have to get at least 1 more striker in alongside Kandol (or a similar style striker).0 -
Dont think they will all be here still next year, but if they are then it is a decent team, just lacking a decent striker which we desperately need (unless Grey hangs around - he would prob be good in League1.)0
-
With that squad I can see us competing, but as SHG points out, will some of those names still be there?
Apart from that, my obvious concern is still in attack, but we do have a number of scoring midfielders in that list.0 -
McLeod, Spring and Yussef would also be in the squad IMHO
Fear we might lose one of Bailey or Shelvey but hope that if that is the case the money means we can keep the others in a similar way to selling Mills allowed us to keep the 99/2000 team together.0 -
If it is about who is willing to stay with us in league one then i'd say bailey is much more likely to agree to stay for a year than racon will be. There'll be clubs interested in both though. It's almost not worth thinking about at the moment because there are so many question marks.0

Good point I think Spring and Yussuff will be, probably McLeod.
Still would like to see one or two strikers go so we could get some in though. There are teams in League One with partnerships that get 40 goals between them, we won't get that with any of those strikers.
What about Dean Sinclair? He might actually get his chance.0 -

We should perhaps be looking at good league 2 strikers like Le Fondre at Rochdale or even Jackson at Gillingham. Even in our straitened state we can probably pay at least as much as they are presently earning.0 -

I think the above won't be here, sold as we have to/they want to and Ward won't drop from a PL side to League 1 imo.0 -
Well, they can only get better (hopefully). =]0

Ward has not really featured for Wolves' Championship team this season, which is why he's already spent a lot of time on loan to Watford and Charlton.
So he's not going to feature in the Prem, if Wolves get promoted.
Even in this mercenary day and age, it's still important to some players to play regular 1st team football rather than idle their time in someone's reserves picking up a fatter wage.
Maybe Ward is one of these players .... ?0 -

I agree that Ward will be available but he may prefer to go back to Watford if they can afford him and want him. On a free transfer maybe we could get him but I suspect Wolves would want a fee.
Another loan might be an option but I think Fortune is a more likely and better option.0 -
Don't forget, Charlton will still be seen in the Third Division as a big club.
So attractive to a number of available players.
And even in straitened times, Charlton will probably still pay better than regular Third Division teams like Colchester, Leyton Orient or Bristol Rovers. So again, an attractive proposition for prospective players.0 -
True Oggy, but he might get a better offer both football and financial-wise from another Championship club0

plus ??
I'm hoping and praying that something can be done about ZZ staying - even if it's until Jan '10. And I don't think Darren Ambrose has done enough to attract serious offers, so he may be persuaded to stay for a cut.
I don't think we'll see Holland, McLeod, Todorov, Kandol, Butterfield, Ward, Weaver or Randolph play in League One for Charlton. I think Bailey will be sold.
Questions
1. will getting rid of nine players and re-negotiating terms with ZZ and Ambrose be enough to balance the books?
2. will Charlton be able to get "rid" of one or more of the big earners on a season-long loan, and benefit from their return the following season in the Championship?
3. is this squad strong enough to get promoted?
I can only answer one of those - 3. Yes!0 -
Ambrose's contract is up, so getting offers is not a problem. Same with Todorov. Holland, Fortune, ZZ and it seems Weaver as well is also out of contract.
Getting the right strikers in and keeping the right ones will make a huge difference. Without enough quality up front we'll find ourselves mid table at best.0
