Academies and Centres of excellence - Questions

I was pleased to hear Richard Murray say that we are keeping the Academy but does anyone know how this differs from the alternative which I assume, perhaps wrongly, is a centre of excellence?

What are the differences in cost and provision for example.

RM also said that we would be the only side outside the top two division with an academy. Does any one know if that would include Forest/Norwich/Soton and what do Leeds and Leicester have?

    interesting point Henners,and I have no idea but i think the academies had to be vetted and meet certain criteria set by the premier League / football league before they could gain 'academy' status.

    In order to achieve centre of excellence or academy status clubs are required to satisfy the criteria set out in the FA Charter of Quality.

    I'm glad we are to keep our academy going but I fear that we will have to sell our best products to finance the whole thing, still I suppose that is what business is all about!

    interesting reading but not particularly up to date - it states that London Broncos RLFC, have now moved back to the Valley, home of Charlton Athletic FC.!!!

    In day to day running I suspect there is little difference between the two. My understanding is that academies are 'licensed' by the premier league and centres of excellence by the football league. I think perhaps the move is a perception thing, essentially an academy is seen as better and therefore makes it easier to attract youngsters with a lot of potential than it would otherwise be.

    Apparently in League One Leeds, Leicester, MK Dons, Crewe and Huddersfield all have academies. So I'm not sure Murray knows that much about the clubs in League One, but to be fair, why would he.
