  • I had vauxhall for the last 12 years as a company car and if get good then their fine, get a bad one their b******s nothing but grief problem after problem, in fact my wouldn't start after the Christmas break, the RAC jump started it and put a spike in the computor and the milage went from 36,000 to 999,999 without moving, the car went into the garage only to never be seen again as the lease ran out end of march ;(
  • Cheers TCE i was worried because the amount of Vauxhall dealers locally dwindled to 2 from about 6 after GM motors pulled their cash it seemed to happen over night but the car IMO just looks and drives to good not to risk it,

NLA I've had a vx220T from new (2004) and it has been brilliant.
Can't say I know much about the more standard cars to be honest but the Vxr range particularly the corsa are pretty impressive to drive. I know the vx engines are pretty robust and can handle a lot of use.
So you can only speak as you find. If and when I trade in the vx I'm likely to get the vxr corsa tho a renault salesman the other day was making a good case for a 197;-)
Hope you enjoy the insignia it looks good to me too.
  • The VXR Corsa looks the mutts nutts check out the VXR Insignia out in the summer WOW what a beast that is might add the VXR body Kit to the Tourer as the VXR cars arnt in the vehicle range i am allowed :-(
  • I had a 1973 Vauxhall Victor many years ago. I owned it three weeks before it caught fire. Cracking motor!
  • Sorry Idle

    LOL
  • My own fault for stripping the carb and not doing the fuel inlet nut up tight enough. Fire brigade reckoned it must have been the electrics. I wasn't going to tell them anything different...
  • gone are the days when tinkering with cars was the norm mate although this one looks good it wont give me no where near as much pleasure as fitting twin webbers on my MG Maestro back in the day

Well, we bought a new Viva (HC) in 1971, soon after we got married, and she became part of the family. The kids grew up with her and she travelled all over the country, taking us on holiday and, more importantly, following the Addicks. She covered over 200,000 miles although we got through 3 engines, 5 gearboxes and lots of clutches. After 19 years she had to go as I had a motorbike crash and had to get an automatic 'cos of my trouble: also it was unlikely she'd get through another MoT because there was more rust than metal. Her high point was when the water pump went on the way to Manchester for the League Cup tie in 1975 and we bodged a repair that held to within a mile of the ground when the head gasket went. We picked her up from a Trafford garage the next Tuesday and went on to Preston to see us lose to Bobby Charlton's team before driving home. I realise all this is of no help whatsoever NLA but if I had the chance of an Insignia I'd take it! (over a Viva, anyway).
  • I changed the brake pads on my motor the other weekend, normally I get someone to do it, chuffed to bits at saving some 70 quid, even more chuffed when it managed to stop at lights at the bottom of shootershill the next day :)

    Mixed reports of Vauxhalls.

A mate had a Nova and got 100,000 trouble free miles out of it.

On the other hand my daughter has a Corsa and the camshaft broke on her at 60 MPH on the A20 after 27k miles and less than 6 months after the (fully complied with) warranty expired.

The b******* have refused to offer any form of contribution or compensation so the matter is presently somewhere in the bowels of the Financial Ombudsman Service.
  • try a visit to www.honestjohn.co.uk - he's brilliant for info on that kind of thing
  • Len, are you an AA/RAC member: they were very helpful to me on paperwork when I had a similar problem (big end came adrift of the crank on my m'cycle).
  • I've driven a new Mondeo recently and a new Vectra, both turbo diesels. The Mondeo went up to Leeds with me and the Vectra went to Exeter so they both had a good run. The Mondeo shat all over the Vectra I thought, a lot sharper, tighter and faster. And the Vectra had one of those stupid Vauxhall radios in.

Insignias are big though and I like big.

I'm eyeing up an Audi A6 next to replace my current squeeze
  • pulled up outside my nephews garage and 3 mechanics said how much it looked like an audi from the side, Insignias rock mate big fast and great looking
  • It's just not an Audi though is it ;-)

To be fair I would not turn my nose up at one if offered
  • Had Vauxhall for years and will not change never had a problem great running cars

Taking delivery of a new Astra 1.6i design Sept 1st cant wait

I've seen this site but thanks for mentioning it anyway.

There are presently 3 large threads all containing posts from people who have suffered the same problem shortly after expiry of the warranty!

I suspect that is why it is a battle to get anything out of them. They don't want to do anything that might be construed as an admission of liability given the seemingly vast number of similar cases.

Hopefully the FOS will find in our favour although I've been told that it tends to support business in most cases rather than the consumer as it is businesses that pay for it.

    We shall see!

    Yes I'm in the RAC.

Thanks for that I'll bear it in mind although at this stage I'll see what (if anything) the FOS comes up with.
