    I actually know about pwned

    it stems from online gameplay - someone once meant to send someone a message stating they had been "owned" which effectively means beaten.

    They mistyped it and sent pwned and this has since snowballed. It is part of a thing called l33t (pronounced leet) which is itself an abbreviated version of elite - meaning the upper echelons of online gameplay and this is where you get all the geekery of words with letters in them and pictures in ASCII code

    sad and geeky but something I picked up whilst doing an open university course.

    Assuming you use Google Dazzler, just type Define:and then what your abbreviation is. into the search box. eg.

    define:LMAO

    That'll give you a quick answer

    Actially Dazzler, it's just an urban myth as the word has been around much longer - but I couldn't resist it.

    If you get 5 mins have a look at the Wikipedia entry for that word - it's pretty funny!
