Bear in mind that he doesn't bat at number three for Essex.

I don't doubt his talent or ability, batting at number three isn't just about scoring runs but setting a platform for the team to score runs, quite often this means playing against instinct and grafting away rather than strokemaking. He looks better to me at number four/five where his strokemaking and run scoring will be best suited. Besides I remember Ian Bell scoring a load of runs against Bangladesh in 2005 at #3, and then he did very little against the Aussies later in the summer. I hope he succeeds because England have lacked a strong number three who can consistently score runs for some time.
  • 260-5

  • BFR - you've been in Germany far too long.

I was just teasing, but thanks for the info on cricket tactics...

  • I know F-all about county cricket (not enough hours in the day). Do Bresnan & Onions improve England significantly? Having googled them, neither is v fast but both can be comfortable with the bat? Is that about right?
Are we looking for a team of all-rounders? In which case, should KP be kept in for his bowling :-)
