New Rule for Football

This time of year when your team or indeed any team is relegated it's not long before you hear some Prima Donna spouting off about how he is to leave some club or other now they have dropped a division, or even worse when they say it with 2 or 3 games to go.
It always leaves a nasty taste in the fans mouth, who could forget Defoe at WHU or our own El Kak etc...
Well how about a new rule that says if you are contracted to a relegated club you as a player have to accept some responsibility? Therefore the following season you are not allowed to play at the level you have just gone down from. You can change clubs by all means, but if for example you played for Newcastle, then next season you can only play Championship or lower.
Ok it's a bit idealistic but something with a few tweaks to it would improve things surely.
From what I saw on Sunday none of Hull's, Newcastle's or Boro's players really looked bothered while playing. Just the customary hands on knees stance at the final whistle.
If a player knew that his next season would definitely be down a league and wages to match then maybe we'd see more fight from players in a relegation battle, including our own!

    Great idea. Totally unworkable, however.
  • The teams in the championship would not be happy potentially having three unaltered premiership teams in their division though, especially if the relegated teams get to pay their star players very reduced wages as well. The reduced wages and high chance of promotion could mean the relegated teams don't feel like they need to sell their top players.

i'd love to see someone suggest it to gordon taylor though.
  • I can see some new rules coming into the Prem soon, I don't know what but I bet you anything you like that Mr Scudamore and Co. are not very happy at all about having Hull, Wigan, Burnley, Stoke etc in their precious commodity. The proposed 39th Game will happen one day, but not until the likes of Newcastle, Leeds and one of the Jocks are in.
Prem2 is going to happen and Rangers and Celtic will be part of it. Once they have the league they want it will goodbye to relegation altogether.
You may think this sounds ridiculous but sadly it is the way the world is going.
  • Careful Chirpy what you appear to be suggesting is a form of socialism...

I thought you are all for the richer getting richer and retaining their wealth?
  • Barking...Absolutely barking ;0)

Oh I am, but not for pikey footballers.... In fact I'd say my suggestion is anti- socialist, I want the nouveau riche footballers wings clipped.

    .......

So what you are saying is that "nouveau riche" footballers shouldn't earn the money that they are legally promised when signing contracts? That sounds very Statist and smacks of central control. More communist than socialist but certainly not pro-capitalist...
  • Don't care if its communist, socialist or on the piss, i think its funny.

    Great idea.

Alternatively, they should be allowed to move on, but for the following season have to wear a pink headband for the whole season, signifying that they are a loser.
  • So what about D Bent? Surely he shouldn't have been punished for the poor perfromances in the rest of our side? For all the money grabbing celeb wannabes there are those who do put the ffort in so it would be harsh to punish them. Great idea in theory though, just like communism and all that
