Don't expect any new signings soon.....

Purely my own opinion here, but why would any player sign for us in our current state ?

Any player hopefully would do his homework before changing clubs, and publicly we are a club that does not know whether it is coming or going. Would you sign for a club without knowing who the manager is going to be ? Whether he has seen you play, rates you, wants you ?

To be honest, i hope we don't sign anyone until the manager situation is cleared up. If we did, it would appear to me that the player is only signing because whoever 'we' is, is offering a better financial deal than elsewhere.

This is the biggest over-riding reason why we need definative public confirmation soon on what is happening on the manager front for next season.

Now is the time when all the agent / player posturing is being conducted, particularly players out of contract, and we are going to end up behind the curve at a time when we really need to be ahead of it.

True except we are so far behind the cure its not even funny esp when our season effectively finished 3 months back, and we were promissed that the club was already starting the prepare for next season, lies lies lies

any of the freebies really worth anything would have signed precontracts time ago now

Cory Gibbs didn't mind, and he was a cracking signing.

    You might hope that the signings are being made on our current structure but are being made aware of the fact that better things are on the horizon. TBH in this division like the one we have just left we will be viewed as a big fish so will have appeal to players whatever our managerial status. I heard Jason Cundy the other day on Talksport say something along the lines of;
You are mad if you sign for a club simply because of who the manager is, it is more important to get a good feeling about a club and whether it suits you as when the manager has gone the club will still be the same. In this day and age it is more relevant than when I was playing

what if the case were Parky wanted Player X. If we are taken over the new owners are going to install Y as manager. If Manager Y also wants Player X then surely there is no reason why Player X can't/won't sign as he knows that whatever happens he is wanted by whomever the Manager will be.

I agree entirely with what Scruffle says too.

The situation with parkinson needs to be clarified and a decision made. I sympathise because it is a really big decision, which i wouldn't fancy making, but that is the nature of running a football club. Even if the club know what is going on, the perception is that we don't know where we are going. Unless it's sorted soon, surely we're going to miss out on players and it could have a knock on effect going into the new season, where a bad start is the last thing we need. Generally I have massive faith and respect for the people who run the club but the lack of clarification is becoming a concern.

Maybe things behind the scenes make it hard to make a decision and in a few weeks all will become clear. That's not a hint at insider info - i don't have a clue what's going on at the moment!

A decision does need to be made soon, though surely it is other things going on that's holding it up? It's now over 4 weeks ago we played the last game, this can't go on much longer.

To be fair we don't know what's going on behind the scenes, just because they haven't announced anything and there hasn't been many rumours (about anything) doesn't mean they haven't been preparing for next season.

That's not true about players on free transfers either. We've announced free transfers on 1st July, it's not always a case of better players being signed up straight away.

In fact it's probably harder for them if they have a lot of offers and interest.

Given what happened to the Zabeel deal, I do worry we will go through the close season, just about tom complete the deal, before it falls over and by which time, money less we can only pick up the dregs that "lesser" clubs than us have discarded. I don't think there is a solution to this but it really is scary. even if we do complete in 15 days time who is to say we will not have missed out on our leading targets?

Whilst I respect this is your opinion how do you know that propsects aren't being told exactly what is happening and who the manager is etc etc. Just becausse you personally haven't read in the news whats happening, doesn't mean its a mystery to all.

    Just my opinion.

But what can they definatively be told ? 'If' this happens / 'If this doesn't happen we would be interested in you ? 'If' this happens / 'If this doesn't happen x / y will be manager and they rate you ? Who is talking to potential players ? Murray ? Waggott ? Parkinson ?

Our current manager is under a ridiculous cloud that if we get new investment he is out of a job / demoted (various), or that if enough people renew he may be out of a job (FF minutes). What sort of player will sign with that backdrop ?

The Zabeel episode collapsed on the last day, and with it i presume 4-5 transfers fell through with it. Nothing is viable until everything one way or another, is finalised.

We can't go through the same process again.

A "big" team in league one, big fan base, london is an attractive place to live for many players and we're one of the favourites to go back up.

  • Thing is the board havent made it clear whether parkinson is staying long term or is just in his position by proxy whilst whatever is going on behind the scenes is resolved. The board probably wont give him the green light to sign anyone at the moment as they dont have enough confidence in him to say that he is the man that will be here this time next year.

If the mooted takeover does occur then parkinson will be down the road and the players he signs may not fit in with new managers and it will be an expensive waste paying a long contract to someone who wont feature. I do think that a lot is going on behind closed doors and that hopefully when that is resolved well see action. The takeover will either happen and be all change or it wont and parkinson will get the nod to start strenghtening the squad (hell already have his eye on some players by now anyway if this is the case.)

    How about another scenario.

    Takeover happens and Parkinson stays.

That will mean everyone is happy : - )

Only way i can see that happening is if parkison recently won the euro millions on the quiet and he's the money man behind it!

All I'm saying is that if we are taken over AND have a new manager no one will have anything to moan about.

And we know FACT that the one thing Charlton fans like more than sex, drink or a winning team is having something, anything to moan about.

So takeover and Parky staying keeps Oggy and the rose tinted brigade sweet while the 99% left have something to have a good whinge about.

Sorry but if certain people outside the club knew i.e. Players / Agents then the whole "secret" would be all over papers in an instant.

well, the Exeter manager has spoken to Parky about Fleets whilst Parky has spoken to Southend player Clarke and both the local rags for Exeter and Southend have mentioned we are in limbo whilst a takeover is sorted out so maybe the news is out there but it is deemed not newsworthy for the nationals as we arn't PL or Championship.
