Nasty Mozzys About.....A Warning For All You Parents

Spent 3 hours in A&E with my 4 year old daughter last night.

She had been bitten on each hand by something unpleasant.

Both had flared up alarmingly and one was showing signs of a tracking infection (looks like a road map creeping away from the bite).

Touch & go whether she was going to need IV antibiotics for a while. Sent home with super strenghth oral stuff in the end. Thankfully is much better today and the antibiotics seem to be working.

The consultant advised that they are expecting to see a lot of this type of thing over the summer. If left untreated the tracking infection can turn very very nasty - attacks the lymph glands apparently. Pretty dangerous for young children.

Make sure you use insect repellent (especially on young ones) and don't ignore a bite if it flares up.

Amen to that. Massive increase in the number of cases of Lyme disease in the past few years as well. Be extra careful if you go for picnics in out of the way areas with long grass - ticks are an absolute f***er and bite you without you realising it because of the anaesthetic in their saliva. get Lyme disease and you'll know all about it - I had a mate who caught it in Canada from a tick bite - he was in hospital for three months.

  • Yes tick bites are awful.....Ive got to see a specialist...I have about 20 bites on my leg which wont heal, I suspect they are tick bites after reading up on it....Ive had them since last September when I was doing some work in my Aussie Jungle.
