Charlton's first ever Carling Cup quarter-final was a night to remember - if you were a Wycombe Wanderers fan.

For the majority of the 18,940 crowd at The Valley on Tuesday night, including head coach Les Reed, it was a night to forget as quickly as possible.

And after the club's fans made their feelings abundantly clear following a showing that saw the Premiership side struggle to trouble the League Two outfit, no one came forward from the Addicks for the post-match press conference

All of them could have lined up and said sorry (or "je suis desole" for Diawara)
  • I agree with you WestStand Singer. That's gutless.

Win or lose (or get embarrassed like tonight..) - Come on out and face the music..

TBF that match was the most angry I can remember being at The Valley in 40 odd years.

To this day I wonder what was said in the changing room before that game. It must have been the most soul-destroying, least inspiring team talk of all time. Because the team went out and gave the most heartless and bored performance I've ever seen in my life and will likely ever see.
  • If buts and maybes but who would we have got in the semis and final?

  • That was the first match I ever took my wife to (girlfriend, at the time).  It was so bad, she threw up.

Makes me sick thinking about that day. Probably the worst performence I have ever seen and i've seen some shockers over the years.
  • Bloody Hell!  I've got the hump now.  What a horrible, horrible night that was.
  • 5 Years WOW! makes me feel old!
  • Yes definitely the most inept display I've seen before or since.

I am a mere stripling compared to many of the sages on here but by god if there was ever a worse game played by Charlton I am glad I never saw it. I wasn't even angry afterwards, I was just numb, I could not comprehend what had happened. I remember walking back to the car passing Wycombe fans who felt sorry for us! Not triumphant over a well deserved victory over a leagues-higher team, they actually felt sorry for us.

    But onwards and upwards!

Exactly , the players didn't want reed and were happy with dowie
But I suppose we'll never know the truth
12 league games and some shit signings he only got to use for 12 games , he should have been given more time , even he would have struggled to get us to a 13th place finish in league one as quick as we got there

Pathetic what was allowed to happen once Curbs left

Not sure what's worse - the memory of the game or the oh so predicable bollocks that is on this thread now it's been brought back up.

    Get over yourselves.

We'd still be Prem if the board hadn't thought that they knew about football and not just business. The treatment of Dowie was pathetic.
