Died of Hodgkin's lymphoma this week.

    I used to read the NME (and Melody Maker) avidly from about 1987 through to 93ish - used to enjoy Swells - he was always the most outspoken and provocative writer. Didn't even realise he was sick.

    RIP and all that, but didn't much care for him as a writer.

    From the Guardian:
    "But his political timing wasn't the greatest. On the day of the poll tax riots in Trafalgar Square he was boating in the Serpentine wondering what the smoke in the distance was."
