Before we get The News, I wondered how many of us were still holding out hopes that Curbs is coming back. I've just got that feeling, am I being completely daft and setiing myself up for a mighty fall?

Really can't see it happening. But maybe less sure than six months ago.

The talk that he's somehow involved in the takeover doesn't go away of course...who knows...but if he is, then one must assume he'll become manager.
We'll know soon enough I guess.

    For the thousandth time,
Curbs has said he won't take ANY job until the West Ham courtcase is over in November.

Yes, indeed that may well be the case P....but there's nothing stopping him having something already in place...either officially or unoficially before then is there.

During my interview (as a Charlton supporter) on May 5th 2005 for Radio Kent, I'd like to think I put things into perpective when answering the "Unrest at The Valley" question. I believe the problem lies in the fact that when you're not given the excitement of finishing in the top six (we finished 11th in The Premiership) or the anxiety of battling against relegation, life it seems can become a little humdrum when you're a middle of the table Premiership team. Taking into account the heady days of the Nationwide Football League Division One Play-Off Final in 1998, the subsequent unsuccessful battle against relegation in 1999, bouncing back to The Premiership as Division One Champions in 2000, and establishing ourselves as a Premiership club from there on in, expectations are high.
In retrospect, and if press reports are true, in that Alan Curbishley threatened to quit following the 4-0 home defeat to Man Utd, then those who bombarded radio phone-ins that evening urging Curbs (Charlton Athletic's Greatest Manager as voted by fans in the Centenary Awards) to quit, should be hanging their heads in shame.
Could Mourinho, Ferguson or Wenger achieve their lot with the restricted budget that Curbs has worked wonders with? I very much doubt it.
How green is my valley? It would be a lot less green without Curbs at the helm, and that being the case those calling for his head will only have themselves to blame.

the problem for me is not the fans expectations but the drug that is the premiership. To stay in it you have to spend all the money it provides, plus get into debt and put your club at risk by employing players on long contracts and high wages. Someone has to drop each year, and the effect of such a huge income drop is devastating and can and will put many clubs into administration.

That post should have DFT (and a few others) squirming in shame.

So we need a caretaker to keep us in contention until Curbs returns in November?

Can't trust it to Parkinson after his last clueless caretakership (0/8 for those with short memories!)

Kinsella ? Keith P? Les Reed? Or there's a bloke called Alan Pardew started last season quite well with three wins in Charlton's first six games...ha ha!
