Who is the worst player we've sold?

We've certainly bought some dross over the years. Players who have under-performed (Marcus Bent), got crocked (Gary Rowett) or gone missing (Omar Pouso, Martin Christensen). But, equally we have sold players for far more than they were worth. But, who is the worst player we have extracted a fee for?

Don't think we sold him for profit, Dazzler.

He came and went on a free.

We rarely make a profit on good players, never mind the terrible ones. Hudson the only one I can really think of, but he was just very average and not what we hoped/expected rather than being our worst player in years.

We invariably seem to pay more for players, than we sell them for.
Although perhaps the player contract system has an impact on that, Claus Jensen for example, as a contract is running down.

Think of the money we paid out for Jensen, Euell and JJ, for example and how much we got back in return.

And Luke Young, we managed to get back only around half our outlay, despite in the meantime becoming our skipper and winning a number of England caps.

A couple of notable exceptions, like Darren Bent of course and, erm ...... *scratches head*

But poor players that we made a profit on - Mark Hudson, as Ledge pointed out. Who else .... ?

    Cost: £20,000.
    Sold: £00,000

    Position: striker

    Played 35 games
Scored, erm ...... once. That's right, once. And we think Burton's crap, lol

Probably wrong to call him a "poor" player but we made money from Shittu.

At the risk of being shouted down for saying something complimentary about him Curbs bought some players in and sold them on at a profit.

Mark Kinsella being a good example and, considering his reputation, getting back what we paid for Andy Todd was good business too.

The likes of JJ and Euell had given us good service and Luke Young was sold at a bargain basement price after Curbs' time.

Excuse me, Len ....... but we're not looking to be corrected here. And we didn't expect you to mention Curbs' hallowed name.

    ;o)

But seriously, Kins is a great example of Curbs' wheeling and dealing.

Signed for £175,000, skippered the side to 2 promotions, bled red & white blood for a number of Prem seasons, and when Curbs thought he'd had the best out of him and a ready made replacement, flogged him for around a million profit.

Probably good management from Curbs - and Murray must have been pleased also at that bit of business.

But who is the worst player we've sold and still made a profit .... ?

I thought we did very well to get a million for Luke Varney.

Getting more than twenty quid for Hudson was a result, although where Traore and Faye were concerned, anything more than a bag of those chocolate coins you used to get in Woolworths for the Christmas tree was daylight robbery.

Athony Barness £330,000 to Chelsea. To this day I am convinced that they wanted to buy Scott Minto (who they bought later) and made a mistake.

Kim Grant is surely a contender for this award, didn't Luton give us £400k for him?!

There was a similar tale about someone Newcastle signed from Wimbledon whose name escapes me, they thought they were getting Jason Euell.

Must have a mention for Marvellous Mark McCammon. Came in for free and left shortly afterwards for 250 large.

Thought I'd mention that I started a thread similar to this a few months ago and, like this thread, some people missed the point in that one as well, but it's probably the way I tell 'em!;-)

Kinsellas knees were shot when he left. I heard he knew this and was aware of Villas interest so he and curbs agreed to let him go as a way of getting them back for nicking jlloyd Samuel

Chelsea wanted Minto but he was out injured and not available so they bought Barness (a mate of mine) instead. Its all in Curbs book anyway.

So, instead of whiling away his time in the old Division One Barney spent his formative years in the Chelsea midweek drinking school led by Mr. Robert Fleck.....

We went down there to watch him train once and to say it was a shambles would be an understatement.
