Genes Reunited - Charlton Area Help Fergus Road ?

The good lady is digging away at family history and good to see some local pedigree for charlton coming upbearing in mind im Dartford chap dad and grandad worked at Stones...Great Grandad at the Arsenal and ran butchers shop in Greenwich but one of the family Houses going back a fee generations was in Fergus Road but cannot find location or church near it......any lifer know of road....cheers

    There is a Fergus STREET in Charlton in 1899 according to the above site.

    Doesn't seem to be there anymore though.

    ill check her file def charlton so must have it wrong........no wonder couldnt find it
    guess have to try find map of that era........cheers again.
  • Just looked at 1881, 1891 and 1901 censuses.

    Nothing for the first two but in 1901 there are 74 houses in Fergus Street and it is described as Greenwich (which doesn't mean it isn't Charlton from my own experience).

    I can't look at the 1901 Census in any more detail at work but if you post /whisper any names I can look at home if you like and tell you who and where they were.

    The Mrs may have already done it of course.

    Old maps are often available in libraries to give you an idea of exactly where it was.

    Fergus Street was in the Parish of Christ Church and the linked map shows the Parish boundaries to give hopefully some idea of where the street was.
