I've heard it said by one or two that because we have 17 board members that it's having an adverese effect on our decision making re a takeover, indeed 'any' decision making in fact.
Can anyone tell me if 17 is an unusualy large number of directors for a pro fooball club in The UK or if it's average?
I appreciate there may well be larger boards the higher up the leagues one goes.....and that now we're in The 1st Div we may be considered to be top heavy....anyone got a view on this?

It's an abnormally high number, but the main decision-making body is the plc board, which has less.
I think you need to think in terms of the number of major shareholders rather than directors, but I'm not saying it's a factor.0 -

Murray, Whitehand and Chappell own a very large majority don't they?0

sir maurice hatter is also a significant investor esp. in recent times.
Many of the FC board made and make signicant financial and other contributions. There are also a number of associate directors.
The set up is a reflection of how funds have been raised over the years.
But Airman is correct to say that the PLC board make the significant decisions0 -

Isn't it Bob Whitehand? Still what's a body part between friends?:-)
Anybody know Gideon Franklin?0 -
Was talking to a Gillingham s/t holder of more than 40 years standing at the cricket at Canterbury today. He reckoned administration was a blessing in disguise for the Gills back in the 1990s because it cleared out a top-heavy and moribund super-structure that may or may not be similar to ours...
On the other hand, of course, it also opened the door to Scally!0 -

Met Gideon at a Bromley do a couple of years ago. Persuaded to 'come on board' by RM. No real history with the Club and not mega rich - he's MD of Mizuho International, married to a Japanese lady and speaks the lingo fluently. Nice enough guy.
The real money maker at the Club presently is Sir Maurice Hatter.0 -
I've heard Steve Brown is coming back as manager and that Maurice Hatter is taking over the club.............what a combination those two names will make, I can see some very interesting 'headlines' coming out of this new development........................................................taxi for SoundAs!0
