So fishing is not a sport. Neither are darts, pool, chess or golf.
shopping is probably more of a sport! (not the enjoyable sort though)
And fishing is mind numbingly boring too.
So's wanking, but it ain't a sport
Trawling on the other hand is far more humane, and only smashes up the rocks creating more sand for our beaches, and therefore preventing decay of our coastline.
isn't it man vs man?
ie, match fishing being the man that catches the most weight of fish?
No, it's just dull PBS...
Seen Laura Davis practice with a fag on.
I would say it's much closer to being a sport than course fishing.
You're constantly on the move and the skill of casting is as hard to master as the golf swing.
I have to say that I've become totally immersed in it as a past time and already know it's something that i will do for the rest of my life.
I read this the other day in a magazine and it totally summed up why I love fishing, it's the ultimate escapism from every day London life...
Testament of a Fisherman:
I fish because I love to; because I love the environs where trout are found, which are invariably beautiful
and I hate the environs where crowds of people are found, which are invariably ugly;
because of all the television commercials, cocktail parties, and assorted social posturing I thus escape;
because, in a world where most men seem to spend their lives doing things they hate,
my fishing is at once an endless source of delight and an act of small rebellion;
because trout do not lie or cheat and cannot be bought or bribed or impressed by power,
but respond only to quietude and humility and endless patience;
because I suspect that men are going along this way for the last time,
and I for one don't want to waste the trip;
because only in the woods can I find solitude without loneliness;
because bourbon out of an old tin cup always tastes better out there;
because maybe one day I will catch a mermaid;
and, finally, not because I regard fishing as being so terribly important
but because I suspect that so many of the other concerns of men are equally unimportant - and not nearly so much fun.
