Was listening to 5 Live and they were talking about the collapse of Setanta has left a hole in clubs finances. Although Sky and ESPN have picked up the coverage the deal is at the old package, leaving a number of clubs in crisis. The comment was that outside the top 3 or 4 clubs the finances were worse than a 1st Division club.

Does anyone here have a knowledge of the non top clubs and players, any gems we could nick? Another Greg Shields would be good.

I'd still assume that a lot of the worth having ones, like Diver, would be beyond our pocket.

Zander Diamond ? We were linked with him last week as well. I just can't see it happening though, unless of course there's some new money coming into the club......

comments of a six-figure deal for Diamond. Seems odd that we are strapped for cash and yet we have six figures, as well as what has to be a hefty contract to lure him away from prospective European football.

Gray out - £600,000 in - £300,000 in the bank, £300,000 out Diamond in ... maybe, or something like that
  • There are a few good buys in the SPL for example I really rate Zaliukas from Hearts at centre-back or Andy Dorman from St.Mirren in midfield. The Zaliukas one could happen as Hearts do have some financial problems.

Is it not more likely that - particularly for the homegrowns - that the big two will snap up anything worth having? I'm thinking of the days when the likes of Steven Wright and Derek Riordan went to the old firm instead of possibly having a better opportunity to play, in England.
  • Not at the moment. Rangers have got rid of most of the deadwood this season shipping out 8 players but there is still some uncertainty on weather we will bring anyone in, with only one player on trial at the moment 19 year old Israeli Gil Blumstein. Celtic have spent some money already but unless they somehow overcome Arsenal and get into the CL then they won't be spending again. So that really only leave a move down south for most of these guys.

  • All the decent players up there should go to the mighty 'Shire......
