on the back of one bad result ? If his tenure was that much on the line it hung on one result then surely you would have got rid in the summer before he brought in a new backroom staff and signed 11 players. Narwich are being as badly run as we are.
I don't think they've sacked him based upon one result as you have to look at that back end of last season as well. e.g - They had to beat us on the last day of the season and they were 3-0 down in 30 minutes against the worst team in the division who had nothing to play for. They didn't want it and ultimately Gunn has failed to motivate the players and get a result out of them. Just heard him on the radio saying he was sitting in the stands until they went 3-0 down against Colchester. Why wait unitl you're 3-0 down to change things around? It's game over by then! They should never have appointed him in the first place and certainly shouldn't have allowed him to sign 11 players in pre-season if they had any doubts.
[cite]Posted By: Weegie Addick[/cite]They actually won in the Carling Cup!
Dowie got us to the 1/4 finals and that wasn't enough to keep him in the job.... in fact there's a pattern emerging here ...... parky knew, that's why he put out a weakened team ;-)
It strikes me something has happened behind the scenes, rather than Gunn getting the bullet after 1 defeat followed by a cup win.
Otherwise they would have fired him at the end of last season, after losing to us and being relegated.
And as said above, they wouldn't have let him sign 11 new players.

I've no doubt he gave it his best shot.
He's been sawn off, but why? The board obviosuly had an itchy trigger finger. Was he of the right calibre? They kept their powder dry all summer. But, when he loaded his defence against Colchester, he still found they were able to shoot at will. Was he in breach of contract? Was he found rilfing through Delia's files? They threw the book at him, lock, stock and barrel. It's easy to make him the butt of jokes; but he was a bit of a bore. They've un-loaded him now.
I would just like to know what their local radio presenter has to say about this: Alan Cartridge.
Bizare to sack him so early, you'd have thought they would have said thanks for tryin now back to the academy (or whatever role he previously had within the club) at the end of last season, rather than financially backing him with new players/staff, oh well hopefully will completely fck up their season now, although doubt it still expect them to be there or there abouts come end of season, mayb with a more competant manager they'll be more of a threat, hopefully not for our sake.
appointment alwasy struck me as a bit of a les read moment

That's what I was thinking, even before I saw you said that. Someone liked by the fans and the board, and the board wanted to give him that chance and were desperate for him to do well. Least we didn't let Reed sign any players (did he really suggest to the board we bring Zheng Zhi on trial? seems unlikely)

Got ya! There you were a few months ago on the phone bemoaning how Norwich had it sorted. You were saying how the fans had ousted some board members and how they were signing lots of new players. Now you're criticising those same actions with the benefit of hindsight.
In a few months you'll be praising Parky.
what a stupid decision, echo thoughts of others in that why go thru pre season and new players to get rid after 1 bad result, must be PMT time up at carrow road......

I'm not criticising those same actions. They were right to get on with it and sign new players to make a fist of it in League 1. What I am criticising now is the fact that if you were not sure that Gunn was the right man for the job then he should have gone in the Summer too. If he were just one defeat away from the sack then why reappoint him after a full inquiry into what had gone wrong. To sack him now shows a Board that frankly hasn't got a clue what it is doing. Gunn was always the wrong appointment with no previous managerial experience and straight out of being Marketing Manager or some such and not even from part of the football side of the Club. However, by doing it this early they have at least I suppose given themselves a chance of still getting it right. By the time we realise the same it will be too late and another season will be floating off down the swannee.
[cite]Posted By: Kap10[/cite]seems strange that they waited all week to make the decision. what changed between 17.00 saturday and today other than they won.
Perhaps Gunn was sacked for something other than losing a match and winning the next one ......?
Apparently, Dowie wasn't sacked by Charlton just because of results ........

Oh, another win, six points - that Parky's right rubbish ;-
He was sacked because I believe the board members have changed since his appointment.

Yes Large let's sack Parky, we are only 2nd in the League and on maximum points.

Knee jerk reactionor decisive decision making, that has been lacking from the valley
