Wootton Bassett Homecoming Tribute

Just been down there again today , most amazing Public tribute and Support , Hells Angels Chapter were there in force . Not sure how much longer we can go on bringing them back in bags, for what purpose .

We could learn from History and in particular Vietnam, a War that can't be won.

Not getting into the in and outs of the war but for both those coming home and those out showing there in support for those coming home i have nothing but admiration.

We could learn from the Russians who tried and failed to invade and subdue Afghanistan at great cost, or from our own failed attempts in the 19th century to invade and subdue the country.

The first Afghan war - in the 1840s ended with the complete destruction of our army, with supposedly one survivor out of an army of several thousand (including women and children) making it out alive - the rest were butchered, or froze to death. Our second attempt a couple of decades later wasn't that much more successful.

The lesson is - don't invade foreign countries unless they attack you first, and especially don't invade mountainous countries full of hostile locals who resent being invaded and if you do decide to invade, achieve a few necessarily limited objectives, have an exit strategy and then get out.
