Crystal Palace's disallowed goal - History repeats itself

I found this link on the "Weird and wonderful web" column in today's Guardian.

During Palace's 1980's match against Coventry, Clive Allen's freekick somehow rebounds straight of of the goal after crossing the line. Coventry then went on to win the match. After the game the manager, Terry Venables, makes his opinions very clear.

It all seems so familiar.

For your viewing pleasure.

Think this has been done to death. Palace seem to be spending a lot of time going on about two (legitimate) goals that were ruled off but that wouldn't have changed the overall result (assuming the Bristol "offside" was counted).
  • I have to disagree.. I'm thoroughly enjoying the whole disallowed Palace goal thing, may it long continue.

I remember Mark Hughes 'scoring' for Southampton at The Dell but the ref didn't notice. The sponsor boards behind the goal were so close to the net that the ball went in, rebounded out and play continued.

Didn't we score a goal that never was back in the 70s/80s? Where the ball went wide but the ref gave it.

The ball bounced off the back wall...for some reason I think it was against Hull City....but then again my grey cells are in rapid decline.

As for the Palarse no goal......although the ball bounced back from the back of the net, I suppose its no different to the ball that crossed the goal line by 12 inches or so. A bit like an inch is as good as a mile when it comes to near misses.

(I've had an early start on the blonk)
