The Victoria Pub

edited September 2009 in Not Sports Related
I was thinking the other week, as The Victoria Pub on Woolwich has been empty for a long long time that it could be a nice little earner to buy it off the Brewery (if thats what your sposed to do) and re-do it all and hopefully make a nice profit from it.

Good idea or a daft one?

Think its a listed building, an old friend of mines folks ran it for awhile the floor made u feel munted before u even started.. only made money on a Saturday, one of the last original late 1800ls early 1900's pubs in the area think its beyond repair now and location means its a bit of a dog egg in terms of rebuilding etc, my mate who ran it then want on to run the horse and groom and as she's had as much luck as our shirt sponser history... ;-)
  • If you push the front door it will fall down. The back half is being propped up by acros.

Now to become a pizza takeaway with a flat behind it after a couple of planning refusals over the years.
  • Good that something will be done with the building
  • What a place to have a flat, ridiculous.
  • I enjoyed my visits to The Victoria. It was an unusual place and entering was akin to a time warp. It looked like a proper pub from the outside and felt like a proper pub when inside.

I was sorry about the closure of The White Swan, which was the best pub in Charlton by far. Charlton's remaining pubs are bland and the beer ubiquitous (the obligatory 'Doom Bar').

Suburban London: Nail bars and take-aways. No to both, say I.

Woolwich is decent for pre-match drinking.

  • Remember years ago after the return to the valley, it was our go to pub pre and after matches, the landlord would have porno films on. Much better action that the sky Saturday lunchtime games we now get 😉
  • Some pubs had beer mats under the pool table to make it level, the Vic had bricks 🧱.
  • It was certainly unique

  • I spent many an evening in The Vic before I left school
