George Best, Allan Clarke (Leeds fan too in the late 60s early 70s), Johann Cruyff, Neeskens, Johnny Rep Dutch team from 1974 from football. Being of a scientist persuasion, Fleming and Penicillin, Prof Mike Bailey and key hole surgery, Watson and Crick and DNA double helix discovery, James Black, Tagamet, Inderal, Ventolin... stunning drug discoveries that have saved so many peoples' lives
James Hunt Ricky West (Champion the Wonder Horse) Tucker Jenkins Suggs Red Rum
and above all..........................Colin Powell
On a cold spring morning as a child I went to Sparrows Den to watch the Sunday football with my Dad. We wandered along the touchline of one of the pitches when the manager of one of the teams (Petts Wood I think) turned and chatted to us like we were old friends. It was Colin Powell and he'd seen us walking round the pitch. We always stood right at the front of the East Terrace against the iron railings and he recognised us from The Valley (the crowds were pretty small back then). To a 10 year old boy, seeing your hero up close was one thing, actually being recognised was something else!
far too many ex- dirty(we all hate) leeds scum fans for my liking appearing ..... i suppose they were the glory team to follow of a certain era... at least you all saw the light;-)
