  • Addick 796 - Eaaagggglllessss
  • Let's hope he becomes one of the handful of players to score of the bench on their debut.

Chris Eagles is the 77th player to score on his debut. (Igor was 76th)

He is only the 6th player to have debuted from the bench and scored so well done him.

  • If I've got it right Chris Eagles is the 76th player to score on his debut.

    Joe Anyinsah
    Matt Fry
    Marcus Bent
    Er...
    Bothroyd?
    Bartlett?

    Fry
    Anyinsah
    Bothroyd
    M Bent
    Pigott
    And now Eagles makes 6

EDIT. As Scoham point out this is wrong so will have to check back

I hope Chris Eagles has a better and longer Charlton career than those 5!
  • So Bothroyd was the first CAFC player to score on his debut (off the bench)?
  • September 2005. We beat Hartlepool 3-1 in the League Cup. Bothroyd came on as a sub for Jonatan Johansson in the 75th minute and scored in the 81st.

So that's forty odd years for the first goalscoring substitute debutant? Quite a stat.
  • edited February 2015
Yes, but for most of that time there was only one substitute which means:
    - Less subs on the pitch
    - Likely to be used later in the game
    - Less likely to be a striker

Still, as you say, it is quite a stat.
  • And I suppose squads would've been much more stable (and so less debutants) than they are now with the multiple transfers and loans each season.
  • @Henry Irving - do you have the year when the 100th, 200th, 300th etc. appeared? Number 800 will be early next season at latest.
  • V001 Joseph HUGHES, August 1921
    V100 Henry McCRACKEN, October 1926
    V200 William BARRON, February 1938
    V300 John SAUNDERS, April 1963
    V400 Anthony BURMAN, December 1976
    V500 Scott MINTO, November 1988
    V600 Jason EUELL, August 2001
    V700 Kyel REID, January 2010

  • Interesting to see we signed 100 players in our first 5 years as a League club.

  • We should have a sweep on the date that the 1000th Addick player plays - I'll go first...August 14th, 2026.

The Premier League is now playing Friday matches
  • Look out for more on this from Stig in Saturday's programme.
  • Alou Diarra - 797
  • The first Charlton Player to have appeared in a World Cup Final.
  • Thanks WSS and RJ.

Can we break 800 this season?

Have the club considered issuing Heritage numbers for every player? Something a bit different in football, though the England Cricket team use them as do the Warrington Wolves Rugby League side.

Nice to see my suggestion getting a mention in yesterday's programme.

But presumably some of those players would already have been at the club in the preceding Southern League season so would already have been registered with the club?
