M25 / A21 this morning.

edited October 2009 in Not Sports Related
Anyone get caught up in that this morning? Anyone know what happened? Surely there must of been a better diversion than filtering all the M25 / A21 rush hour traffic through Sevenoaks high street! Left for work at 6:45 and just got here!

Gave up about 8:45 and went back home. I'm monitoring Google Maps to see when the traffic dies down before trying again.

RIP of course it's a very dangerous road the A21.....but in all honesty, should this have closed the road...in both directions I may add, for over 6 hours.....well should it?
The Highways Authority and their petty red tape legislation.........it's become a complete joke!
Please don't think of me as heartless....in the case of a serious injury or fatality all the time neccessary to do what has to be done is not in question....what is in question is all the bullshit surrounding the closing of roads for hours on end once those problems have been dealt with and watching guys driving around in 4X4's wearing yellow bibs carrying clip boards and radios running around justifying themselves.....this has become more and more evident as time goes by.
A couple of decent honest to goodness coppers would have dealt with this a decade or so back and got the roads working again and in less than half the time.

Judging by the photo of the wreck and the amount of police hardware it took to clear up, I would say yes.

I drove past northbound at about 1pm after seeing both vehicles involved been carried away in the opposite direction a couple of minutes earlier - the van, which was badly smashed and an Eddie Stobbart lorry that had obviously been on its' side. They were using sweepers to clean up the debris.

    Firstly, RIP to the driver.

Secondly, I'm in complete agreement with soundas - why the hell were they only clearing up the debris from this incident almost SEVEN hours later? All the required equipment is readily available to the highways agency to move the vehicles, the evidence as to what happened is pretty straightforward and the injured people can be removed from the site within a couple of hours. There must have been a dozen HA vehicles involved in the situation - with most of them standing around picking their noses.

It would happen in any other European Country.

Chizz....I've been driving for 45 years now....We've always had accidents and always will but nowadays it's the norm to close roads and set up mind numbing diversions for hours on end....The Highways Agency and their over zealous approach is a farce and a national disgrace costing us millions!

I think you will find it is the culture of Insurance companies, and health and safety....... the blame culture,
When people are injured fair enough, but closing a road for hours on end to determine who's fault it is in non fatal accidents is becoming a farce, modern image capturing should not need this.
All the people claiming 'whip lash', and £20, 000 for there clapped out ford escort ...... and the Insurance companies are the main culprints........

I'm sure that plays a very big part in this ongoing problem Ken....though there are no doubt several others that have made this the scandal that it is.
It's sort of crept up on us bit by bit until we now 'sort of' accept it.......typical of us Brits one has to say.

Yep. as you say we have always accidents,......... I think it is so acute around here because the other transport infastructure is so poor, the A2 around Bexley seems to be an accident always waiting to happen! The 50mph , is a bizzare lash up , every day this week the A2 tailbacks going over the river seem to have gone from appauling to 'forget it'..... Quite simple I would not do business with a client the other side of the water unless they paid for the traveling time, although few can support this attitude!.

The traffic around here has become the main reason for moving.......
