  • First since 10 years ago, and could have quite easily been 6
  • sounds about right. just had a scan through and there are a depressing amount of 5's against.

When was the last time we scored 5 at home? Man City? Southampton?

    Wasn't that 4-0 or 4-1?
  • It was 4-0 against Man City - 5-0 vs Southampton, first game of the season I think in 2001?

Saints 5-0 was 1998-9 after play-off the victory.
  • jeez my memory isn't what it was.

33 years and counting since that last happened...

When the 5th went in with over 15 minutes left, I thought today was finally going to be the day!

5-2 away at Grimsby was last time we scored 5 in a league game, before that Saints at home 1998. I did see us score 5 at Orient in a friendly july 2003 though
  • When was the last time that 5 different players scored for us in the same game?

I don't know the answer I'm just throwing it out there.
  • I've seen us score eight in a game. Anyone remember who that was against?

Close but no cigar here. Five different Charlton players scored in this one, but not all for The Addicks : http://www.charltonlife.com/forum/comments.php?DiscussionID=11712&page=1#Item_11

850 games and I've never seen Charlton score 6. If they were going to do it yesterday was the day....5 up with 18 mins to go. Think it was the first time I'd ever seen five different goalscorers though. Can anyone think of another time since 1982 when we've had five different scorers? (not including friendlies).

My son has also been going now for quite a few years and not seen us get 6.

Lucky for us old 'uns who remember the 70's in the 3rd division and quite a few 6 goalers with the likes of Killer, Flash and Paddy.

Stonemuse....yep, my mate was telling me yesterday about the 6-2 v Southampton. I've seen quite a few 5's (Cheslea, Camb U, Barnsley, Brighton, Man City (at Selhurst...home) Wimbledon (at Selhurst...away), WBA, Grimbsy ...but no 6's. Seen us let in 7 at Brighton and 6 at home to Leeds though!!!!

Only two sixes in the 70s Third Division - 6-0 v Swansea and 6-1 v Notts County, separated by three weeks in the autumn of 1972. That was pre Hales and Powell, although Flanagan scored four against Notts County.

Oddly, given the goalscoring that went on in this era, Andy Nelson's spell as manager 1974-79 produced only one six - September 24th 1976 6-2 v Southampton.

As far as I can see, the last time five different players scored for Charlton in a League match was March 16th, 1963 - Bailey (2), Kenning, Peacock, Lucas, Ryan - as we beat Plymouth 6-3 at The Valley.

Cheers Rick, strange how memory plays tricks, I could have sworn there was more. Probably thinking of or influenced by 6 goals plus in a game, e.g. our 4-4 at Burnley.

And I was there. Great weekend that was, fried Mars bars, Tuborg lager and Charlton score 5. Cleethorpes in November quality.
  • I got there at half time for the Grimsby game - took over 8 hours from se10...think a coach turned up shortly after me too...
  • Saw both six goal wins in the 70's. For a moment there yesterday I thought we would do it again.

Sadly I've seen several seven goal defeats. Luton, Brighton and Burnley if memory serves correctly.

Mind you if I supported Palace I might have seen a nine goal defeat :-)
