Deep down Louisiana close to New Orleans
Way back up in the woods among the evergreens
There stood a log cabin made of earth and wood
Where lived a country boy named Johnny B. Goode
Who never ever learned to read and write so well
But he could play the guitar just like a ringing a bell

    Go go
    Go Johnny go

There's a little ditty they're singin' in the city
Especially when they've been on the gin or the beer
If you've got the patience your own imaginations will tell you just exactly what you want to hear
Oom pah pah, oom pah pah, that's how it goes
Oom pah pah, oom pah pah, everyone knows
And they all suppose what they want to suppose when they hear oom pah pah

Well, he walked up to me and he asked me if I wanted to dance
He looked kinda nice and so I said I might take a chance
When he danced he held me tight
And when he walked me home that night
All the stars were shining bright
    And then he kissed me

    Three offerings:

"Once upon a time you dressed so fine. You threw the bums a dime in your prime .... didn't you?" - Like a Rollin' Stone - HRH King Bob Dylan

"Oh, Debora... always look like a zebra" - Debora by pre-glamrock Bopping Elf, Marc Bolan.

"Take it or leave it, I've heard it been said" - Russian Roulette by Van Morrison

OK, that last one might not seem much, but take a listen.

I swear he really sings "Hey, Carl Leaburn". Trust me.

My love is like footsteps in the snow, baby,
I follow you everywhere you go, baby.
The pain as light has come to wake you
    But you will never realize
That I inspire the dreams that guide you baby.
    You're a half a world away
But in my mind I whisper every single word you say.
And before you sleep at night
You pray to me, your lucky star, your singing satellite.

    Oceanlab - Satellite

In one single moment your whole life can turn 'round
I stand there for a minute starin' straight into the ground
Lookin' to the left slightly, then lookin' back down
World feels like it's caved in - proper sorry frown
Please let me show you where we could only just be, for us
I can change and I can grow or we could adjust
The wicked thing about us is we always have trust
We can even have an open relationship, if you must

From the two bands of the decade:

Stop making the eyes at me, I'll stop making the eyes at you
And what it is that surprises me is that I don't really want you to
And your shoulders are frozen (cold as the night)
Oh, but you're an explosion (you're dynamite)
Your name isn't Rio, but I don't care for sand
And lighting the fuse might result in a bang, b-b-bang, go!.....

    and

I'm on it, get on it
    The troops are on fire!

The Paul Simon song is rubbish apart from that line whereas New England is excelent, but I knew that if I had put Billy Bragg some wag would have pointed out that he didn't write it.
