[cite]Posted By: Mortimerician[/cite]Just thinking about that film: how shit a race are the blue things? Jake was one of them for a month and quickly became the greatest of all time, by being the first to try jumping on the red thing's back. They really must be piss poor. Seems a shame to waste all that wonderful unobtanium on them.
Lol very true
I think something similar about District 9. If the aliens are the only ones who can use the weapons, why don't they, ya know, use them? Rather than letting themselves be bribed with cat food and eaten by Nigerians.
Seen it now in 3D as well as 2D (but not IMAX 3D because we don't have that sort of thing in Norfolk). Still have a bit of a problem with my eyes and the 3D projection although not as bad as the original 3D films.
Whilst some of the shots which showed the depth were amazing and the floating flower thingys were great, much of it was 3D for 3D sake.
That said it is a must see film in 3D.
Plot still smurahontas and dialogue clunky but mustn't be churlish.
[cite]Posted By: kimbo[/cite]We saw it tonight, thought it was quite depressing to see the queues of people queuing at the o2, is this the type of film people want to see? Effects but no plot or feeling . 4/10 for ne felt like I was in a computer game maybe I am too old
Todays world in a nutshell kimbo. (Supposed) Style over substance every time, in all apsects of life - from the plastic pub to the plastic football teams that dominate the TV schedules, to the plastic trainers that mugs pay £100 for...
That said, I enjoyed the film, despite the obvious plot and the ultra-sterotype characters.
What does that say about me?
A little harsh I feel Algarve; when has the mainstream ever been the epitome of nuance and subtlety? There are still excellent character driven films out there for those who want to see them.
I wasn't alive in the 70s or whenever, but I imagine back then it was still the case that the majority of people preferred catchy pop songs to Mozart.
Guess you are right there Sussex, but there just seem to be far more people about now who just blindly follow whatever is thrown at them than there were in previous decades. As I said, I liked the film myself, so I'm no better...
Agree plot was a bit borrowed and basic, perhaps a different director could have explored the topic at greater depth and subtlety - although something that big and complex, and such a big special effects aspect might detract or even prevent that, certainly a challenge for a Director. Reminded me a bit of the star wars prequels which were very indulgent, clunky and poorly written in my view, and Lord of the Rings which didn't suffer quite as much.
All that being said it is a must see for all fans of the moving visual art for the effects alone which are immersive and stunning.
wtf does the plot have to do with it seriously folks its a 3D smasher for kids if you want a serious film then go watch a grown ups version
it was not aimed at the serious market
and do you know what i like that sort of thing far too much serious stuff going on in the world it is a cracking way to let your little uns have some make believe
i remember watching ET as a kid and crying like a girl, my little lad walked out of theree his head buzzing with the images and the mastery of it all

I understand where you are coming from but I have to disagree with you to this extent. Yes if it was all about the 3D experience only and for kids, the plot could have been aimed at children. Instead we had a formulaic story which contained sex between the two main characters, and a load of moralising stuff about the wicked captalist humans backed by their army and hardware, flattening the poor natives to nick the resources that were their for profit. I'm not sure my ten year old got any of that (apart from the two characters "mating") but the story was aimed at the adults.

sounds like star wars Bing if we look for the content as adults we will find it kids look at it as goodies and baddies
must admit the shagging under the tree was un called for
NLA and Tel, I don't have a problem that it was a great bit of escapism and absolutely worth going to see. (I've seen it twice). I just told it like I saw it. Great 3D, entertaining but script/dialogue formulaic and clunky. Still happy to see it a thrd time.
As for the adults stuff v kiddies stuff, well I have been in and around pantomimes for years.(My wife is currently directing our local one - Oh no she isn't!!....). Panto is great because it appeals at both levels.
I've just got back from seeing it and would highly recommend it. As others have said the story is predictable and clunky, but for what it is I was blown away. Fantastic viewing and pretty sure I'll be going again (the Mrs' is insisting!) Those with kids who haven't seen it - take them, they'll be astounded.
Yep its an experiance but your left with absolutely nothing once youve watched it, very weak story line and dodgy theme I was very dissapointed, my 10 yr old hasnt really mentioned it since, where as films we have watched which did have a strong story line he talks about tons. Only plus point is the animated environment it creates. 3d is certainly not the future of film.

for example (somthing like this):
Baddy "you wont win while im still breathing"
Goody "i was hoping youd say that"
Battle commences
Its so silly.
Having said that, the film is apparently changing some young american atitiudes towards the environment ect, which has to be a good thing
