  • Strauss should be using poor opposition and the co-hosts of the next WC to play himself into some form, not have a break. Fast bowlers need rest. Batsmen, and especially Captains shouldn't. Poor form for me.
  • rashid must've kicked a black cat under a ladder and into a mirror.
  • Really cannot understand how Carberry makes the Test squad instead of Denley. I would have thought that this would have been the ideal opportunity to groom a future England opener. Or are THEY worried he will do so well that it would undermine Messrs Strauss and Cook's place in the Team?

He's not consistently accurate enough to play Test cricket at the moment. He can bowl leg-spin but he bowls too many loose balls, you can get away with those in County cricket and probably against Bangladesh too, but there's no point in playing him and then having to drop him immediately after.

That's why Tredwell was called up half-way through the SA tour - supposedly it was to be a finger spin back up to Swann, but really it was because Rashid wasn't going to be good enough against a decent Test team, at least not yet.
  • Nass did hint the other day Strauss not being captain may not entirely be about a rest, with about 2 months until those tests you would have thought he would have had plenty of rest by then, maybe the ECB are trying to avoid another Trescothick?
