Can you watch musicals in the theatre? I've been to a few at the theatre that were fantastic, like Billy Elliot, but I just can't stand watching musicals on film/TV. Scrubs did a musical episode once and it drove me mad, other people I spoke to thought it was great, but spontaneously breaking into song on the big or small screen really grates meSuedeAdidas said:I would rather go to the dentist than watch La La Land.

Having had time to reflect on my thoughts about lalaland. I've done a u turn on my opinion. I just wanted a 'happier' ending but have come to terms with why it had to end the way it did. Naive of me to think it would be different.
I keep humming the songs all day long even though I only saw it once. Amazing how a film over 3 weeks can have that effect. I now gush about it when talking about it to people! Bizarre!0 -

I don't get it with Sully though. The story has no conflict and it felt so contrived to make the investigators the bad guys. And for Clint to show us the crash half a dozen times kinda summed up the script's lack of action or purpose. And the big finish had me laughing out loud. "Let's see if Jimmy 85 really could have killed 50 monsters by getting him to play Gears of War on a cinema screen!" It was only Hanks staring out of windows looking upset that saved it.

I was surprised when I learned that they were going to play brothers though! I think the film is okay and two scenes absolutely stand out: the accident and Lee's encounter with Randy on the street. Michelle Williams is such a great actress. I simply couldn't stop crying watching that scene. That said, I think the whole film is too slow. Casey Affleck is a very talented actor but.... I've seen almost every film that he's been in and honestly speaking, he's played quite a few similar characters before (and I don't know why but to me he always seems like that kind of person). People probably just didn't know that. And as for winning an Oscar, I'm not sure if anyone has heard of the sexual harassment allegations. I guess that will be a problem. saw I, Daniel Blake finally yesterday. really good watch. ken loach doing his usual great social commentary along with some superb performances from first time actors. Ian Duncan Smith must of enjoyed it.1

I saw it Monday night and quite enjoyed it to be honest. It's a musical so you know it's going to be pretty cringey but once you get over that it's really well shot.suzisausage said:

The only song I can actually recall though and I also find myself humming it now and then is 'City of Stars'.1 -
That was news to me too. I think there's logic in the article - he is more of a darling than Parker, he has clout-wielding friends etc. But I think the final paragraph sums it up - he may possibly have been an asshole, but wasn't guilty of much more than that. And it's resolved. The article itself is dredging up a resolved case. There's absolutely no comparison to the Polanski case, and the article also ignored the fact the Birth of a Nation isn't a very good film!AddicksAddict said:

Last weekend started to watch Manchester by the Sea, got a little way in and decided that my mood was happier than the film so switched it off. My wife said let's try la la land I couldn't get past 10 mins of it and she said "I suppose I'll have to watch it when you are not here" she is a great mind reader, ended up watching Lion, great film really enjoyed it. Thanks god for Phoenix Movies on kodi, this lot would have cost me a fortune at the cinema.2

My memories of this lady are predominantly post-JFK, after she married the overweight, but very rich, Greek shipping magnate, Aristotle Onassis. As such, she didn't hold much interest for me (recognising this is not a bio), although I do like the director, Pablo Larrain.
I thought it was interesting and pretty good overall but not, in my view, a film out of the top draw. I also found the over loud music a little intrusive at times - 7/10.0 -

For anyone who liked the slow, serious, unsentimental, character-driven movie-making of MANCHESTER BY THE SEA, I can recommend a little known film by the same director, Kenneth Lonergan, called MARGARET. He dares to make a three hour film about a troubled, unlikeable girl and get you understanding her and sympathising with her by the end. Not for people who like car chases, though!2

I agree. As I say, it's little known generally but I saw that it had been voted 31st greatest film of the 21st Century in a recent poll. Brilliant film. It made me so angry .
