Saw A Ghost Story last week. I loved it and found it intriguing, unusual and very moving. The person I went with thought it was boring, pretentious rubbish.2

The Dark Tower - Oh sweet lord. There was such a fuss about turning this into an HBO series or a movie, it took years and years, multiple people attached to the project... and in the end someone has churned out a generic action movie with about 10% of the novel's plot points.
I don't really like comparing films to books, they are different mediums. But in terms of how they adapted an incredibly interesting and brilliantly fleshed-out world, the makers of TDT done fucked up bad. It's a mildly distracting fantasy thing with decent effects and good cast, but not remotely close to the wonder and magic of the story told in the book.

American Made - Thoroughly enjoyed it, but it is quite flawed in terms of pacing and characterisation (not sure anyone has a character arc in this thing). I love watching Cruise movies, and he delivers. It zips along mostly, has a sag in the middle. If you like NARCOS you will appreciate seeing some of the story from another character's perspective, although you'd need to see NARCOS to understand exactly what Barry Seal was involved with. Has some great set-pieces and is charming enough to see it through. The funny thing is, there's absolutey zero tension, which is some feat considering how every other coke-smuggling movie or TV show I have ever seen

Watched Gifted over the weekend, Chris Evans is guardian to his 7 year old niece who happens to be really good at math (as was her now dead mother)
English grandmother turns up and the legal battle for who/what is best for the girl takes place, then the fallout afterwards.
Some funny moments and some sad/dramatic ones too but a really good watch.

I think Dark Tower would be much more suited to a long tv series as opposed to a film. There was 7 books for gawd sakes and ill be honest I felt the story was to rushed so to fit it all into a film (I know its technically a sequel). ive not seen it yet so still live in hopeJiMMy 85 said:The Dark Tower - Oh sweet lord. It was ripe for an HBO series, and frankly still is considering the movie doesn't spoil the book at all. I don't know why so many producers found adapting the books daunting, but whatever the reason is, it's holding the story back.Northstandpieeater said:

Not new but saw I, Daniel Blake the other day. Ken Loach really is a master craftsman, brilliant film. The scene with the beans had me in bits3

Again, not new, but I have in the last week caught The Fisher King, The Big Lebowski and a bit further back Hell or High Water. All three brilliant films, but I find myself also impressed by Jeff Bridges. When I was much younger, he seemed like the sort of actor basically stuck in to keep a Young female audience in the cinema, but man he is a seriously good actor.2

Those are three excellent roles for him. Although in his later years he's done the gruff Texan/ cowboy thing a few times! IT was great, one of my favourites as a teenager, however, one of the worst endings for such a great film IMO.

I've began watching films on MOBI, £1 for the first month and now on a £3.59 a month deal (which you get once you press the cancel button). Ive enjoyed the eclectic mix of films and get to see ones I wouldn't otherwise.Last nights viewing 'In A World' quirky US comedy which I enjoyed.0

Seeing IT on Monday, very.muxh looking forward to it.
Working through the horror films on NowTV at the moment.
Best I've seen of the bunch are Ouija Origin of evil (very scary), Don't Breath (about some people breaking into a blind guys house to rob him. Not supernatural at all but brilliantly directed, very recommend) and Lights Out... Not particularly original but a good solid scary horror flick.

Just got in from It. Really enjoyed...er...it.
Great casting of the kids who, as per the original, carry the whole film effortlessly. I'd forgotten how good King's characterisation is and this film manages to transmit that on screen too. On balance I think I prefered Tim Curry's Pennywise but this version is also very good, if slightly different in tone. Both flipping terrifying, especially if like me, and the character Richie, you have a fear of clowns.
Some really good nods to the 80's and a few Stephen King Easter eggs to look out for too.

Saw IT tonight as well. Enjoyed it, without being blown away and not all that scary. The kids were great, and their friendship carried the film. I thought it was like a cross between Stand By Me and Beetlejuice1

Annabelle - Chose over IT as heard that wasn't very good
It was good and some jumpy moments, a bit different to the conjuring films and didn't really make and reference to them so you don't have to have seen the others.(obviously as its a prequel)
Bizarre ending, which didnt really make sense but i wont put any spoilers.
7/10 - not quite as good as the conjuring films but thought it was pretty good still. 0/10 for people in there watching as chatting all the way through and making alot of noise, i could have thrown my drink at them. Nearly happened lol1 -
IT was good.
Stayed fairly faithful to the book, the kids are all excellent actors, Pennywise portrayed well.
Looking forward to chapter two.
